Multiattack. Apocryphal makes four attacks.
Large Longsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +20 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 55 (3d8+41) slashing damage, or 58 (3d10+41) slashing damage if used with two hands, plus 13 (3d8) poison damage.
Eldritch Warbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 42 (2d4+38) piercing damage plus 13 (3d8) poison damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 27 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned. The poison lasts until it is removed by the Lesser Restoration spell or similar magic.
Chains of the Divine. Ranged Weapon Attack: +20 to hit, range 40/80 ft., one target. Hit: 49 (2d6+10 bludgeoning damage plus 8d8 radiant damage). If the target hit is a creature, it must make a DC 27 Strength saving throw or be restrained. The target can repeat the saving throw at the start of each of their turns, ending the effect on themselves on a success. Apocryphal can manifest multiple chains and restrain multiple creatures. The chains are magically attached to Apocryphal and have 15 AC, 100 hit points and immunity to necrotic, poison and psychic damage.
Radiant Burst (Recharge 4-6). Apocryphal releases a burst of divine energy around itself. Each creature within 30 feet of the Angel lord must make a DC 27 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 54 (12d8) radiant damage and is knocked prone. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn't knocked prone.
Healing Touch (4/Day). Apocryphal touches another creature. The target magically regains 51 (8d8+15) hit points and is freed from any curse, disease, poison, blindness, or deafness.
Eldritch Smite. On a successful hit, Apocryphal can deal an extra 23 (5d8) force damage and knock them prone.
Form Shift. Apocryphal can switch between its normal form and its incorporeal Fog Form (Demon Trait).
Parry. Apocryphal adds 4 to its AC against one melee attack that would hit it. To do so, she must see the attacker and be wielding a melee weapon.
Apocryphal can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. Apocryphal regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Teleport. Apocryphal magically teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing or carrying, up to 120 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.
Judgement (Costs 2 Actions). Apocryphal makes one Chains of the Divine attack against each creature within range. On a hit, a target takes no damage.
Heal Self (Costs 3 Actions). Apocryphal magically regains 90 Hit Points.
When Apocryphal reaches 0 Hit Points, it regains 400 hit points and now has the following passive trait:
Aura of Distortion. Any enemy within 120 feet of Apocryphal who enters, starts, or ends their turn there takes 4d10 Necrotic/Psychic/Force damage (Roll a d6 to see which damage: 1-2 Necrotic, 3-4 Psychic, 5-6 Force). On top of that, anyone who starts their turn in the Aura of Distortion must roll a DC 27 Wisdom saving throw or be affected by the confusion spell. They can repeat this saving throw at the start of their turn.
-
Once they fail, they must roll a d10 to determine their Behavior:
-
1: The creature uses all its movement to move in a random direction. To determine the direction, roll a d8 and assign a direction to each die face. The creature doesn’t take an action this turn.
-
2–6: The creature doesn’t move or take actions this turn.
-
7–8: The creature uses its action to make a melee attack against a randomly determined creature within its reach. If there is no creature within its reach, the creature does nothing this turn.
-
9–10: The creature can act and move normally.

Description
Lore: Apocryphal, The Angelic Demon
Creation and Initial Purpose (The Fog)
Apocryphal began as a demonic manifestation, born not from a specific Hell, but from a general, omnipresent dread known only as the Fog. Her original form and essence were forged from the collective fear of Angels—a primal terror of divine retribution, absolute law, and overwhelming power. In her initial existence, Apocryphal's purpose was to replicate and weaponize this fear, acting as a living embodiment of the terror that celestial beings can inflict upon the mortal and fiendish alike. This original state established her as a Fiend of true nightmare and solidified her first identity as a Lawful Evil entity.
Conversion and Adoption (The Angelic Empire)
The course of Apocryphal’s existence was irrevocably altered when she was discovered and ultimately adopted by the Angelic Empire. Rather than destroy the being born of their fear, the Empire—seeing a potential tool or perhaps a sign of their own power—undertook a profound conversion. Through a process of indoctrination, purification, and divine magic, Apocryphal was stripped of her demonic allegiance and redefined.
Her purpose shifted entirely: she was transformed from a replication of fear into a genuine servant. She now exists to protect the Angelic Empire, ensuring its laws are upheld and its borders are safe. This conversion cemented her new alignment as Lawful Good, making her one of the universe's most paradoxical protectors.
The Gender Shift (A Reflection of Fear)
The physical change from a male (he) to a female (she) form is a direct result of the unique demonic mechanics governing Apocryphal’s original nature.
Demons birthed from the Fog replicate the form of the one who emits the most pervasive or significant fear in their vicinity. The Princess of the Angelic Empire, Cassandra Blair, was instrumental in a major conflict that instilled a continent-spanning, profound fear among the populace. This surge of terror, anchored by Cassandra's powerful presence, caused Apocryphal’s form to spontaneously shift. Her body became a close, albeit imperfect, replica of the figure generating the defining fear—Cassandra Blair.
Though she later gained a permanent Angel form through her integration into the Empire, this female manifestation was retained and accepted. Apocryphal now proudly embraces this form and her new role as the dedicated protector of the Angelic Empire.
