Traits

Dormant Form. While motionless, the Comforter Creeper is indistinguishable from a mundane bedspread, quilt, or duvet. A creature must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence (Investigation) check to realize its unnatural nature.

Smother. A creature grappled by the Comforter Creeper is also restrained and begins suffocating. The target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw at the start of each of its turns or fall unconscious until the grapple ends or it takes damage.

Dream Drain. When the Comforter Creeper successfully restrains a sleeping or unconscious creature, it begins to feed on their dreams and vitality. At the start of each of the target’s turns, they take 7 (2d6) psychic damage and regain no hit points from rest or healing until the Creeper is removed. A creature reduced to 0 hit points this way falls into a magically induced nightmare coma for 1 minute.

Fluff Regeneration. The Comforter Creeper’s plush form rapidly reconstitutes itself. It regains 5 hit points at the start of its turn if it has at least 1 hit point. The Creeper does not regenerate if it takes fire or acid damage before the start of its next turn.

Actions

Multiattack. The Comforter Creeper makes two attacks: one Slam and one Wrap.

Slam. Melee Weapon Attack Roll: +7, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

Wrap. Melee Weapon Attack Roll: +7, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: The target is grappled (escape DC 15). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the Comforter Creeper cannot Wrap another target.

Quilt Crush (Recharge 5–6). The Comforter Creeper leaps and flops down on creatures within 10 feet of it. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 21 (6d6) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone.

Description

At first glance, it looks like a cozy quilt tucked neatly over a bed. But the moment someone touches it, the comforter ripples and surges, wrapping around the victim with terrifying force. Its seams tighten like jaws, its fabric smothers screams, and faint muffled giggles can sometimes be heard inside the folds as it feeds on the fear of its prey.
