Traits

Detect Life. Aoibheann can magically sense the presence of creatures up to 5 miles away that aren’t undead or constructs. She knows the general direction they’re in but not their exact locations.

Incorporeal Movement. Aoibheann can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. She takes 5 (1d10) force damage if she ends her turn inside an object.

Haunting Presence. Creatures within 10 ft. of Aoibheann have disadvantage on Saving Throws against being Frightened.

Life Drain. When Aoibheann deals Necrotic damage to a creature, she regains Hit Points equal to half the damage dealt.

Sunlight Sensitivity. While in sunlight, Aoibheann has disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Actions

Corrupting Touch. Melee Spell Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (6d6) Necrotic damage.

Horrifying Visage (Recharge 5-6). Each non-undead creature within 60 feet of the banshee that can see her must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, with disadvantage if Aoibheann is within line of sight, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a target’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to Aoibheann Horrifying Visage for the next 24 hours.

Wail of the Queen(1/Day). Aoibheann releases a mournful wail, provided that she isn’t in sunlight. This wail has no effect on constructs and undead. All other creatures within 30 feet of her that can hear her must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, a creature drops to 0 hit points. On a success, a creature takes 45 (10d8) Psychic damage.

Mythic Actions

Mythic Trait: Queen’s Resurrection (Triggers at 50% HP)

When Aoibheann is reduced to 80 HP or fewer, she lets out a shriek of agony as her spectral form shatters — only to reform as a Crowned Spirit of Despair. Her body glows with moon-silver flame, and her sorrow turns into furious hatred.

When this happens:

  • She immediately regains 60 HP.
  • All conditions and effects affecting her end.
  • Her Wail of the Queen recharge resets.
  • She gains access to Mythic Actions.

Mythic Actions (available while Queen’s Resurrection is active). She can use these instead of her normal legendary actions.

  • Soul Shatter. Aoibheann targets one creature she can see within 9 m. The target must succeed on a DC 17 Charisma saving throw or take 27 (6d8) necrotic damage and be Stunned until the end of its next turn.
  • Lament of Lost Love (2 Actions). All creatures of Aoibheann’s choice within 9 m must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A creature frightened in this way takes 7 (2d6) Psychic damage at the start of its turns.
  • Soulstorm (3 Actions, Recharge 6). Aoibheann releases a maelstrom of ghostly energy in a 12 m radius. Each creature of her choice in the area must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw, taking 35 (10d6) Necrotic damage on a failure, or half on success. Aoibheann regains hit points equal to half the total damage dealt.

Description

Echo of a Broken Song

Centuries ago, in the mist-laden wilds of western Ireland, lived Aoibheann, a revered druid and master singer whose voice bridged the mortal world and the unseen spirit realms. She served as the guardian of the Harp of Tír na nÓg, a sacred instrument carved from the first tree of the island and strung with moon-silver. Through its chords, Aoibheann wove melodies that stirred memory, sorrow, hope, and longing with equal force.

Her most powerful composition, Anáil na gCuimhne—the Breath of Memories—reached so deeply into the fabric of emotion that it awakened spirits who had wandered too long between yearning and rage. The song opened a fragile veil between realms, drawing the living and the dead into shared remembrance. Though the melody was not born of malice, its effects were unpredictable and often overwhelming.

A Sacrifice Betrayed

Realizing the danger her gift had unleashed, Aoibheann sought to still her own voice forever. Through a ritual of silence, she offered up her breath, binding her spirit to the harp so that no mortal hand would carry her music into darkness.

Her sacrifice was answered with fear, not gratitude. The druids of the region, terrified by the power she had touched, burned her sacred grove, stole the harp she had entrusted to them, and purged her name from their lore. As the flames consumed her sanctuary, the ritual fractured—and Aoibheann's spirit was torn between worlds.

On nights of the full moon, the stolen harp releases soft, mournful phrases of her unfinished song. Those who hear it feel a hollow ache for memories they never lived, as if longing itself were reaching back to claim them.

A Queen Crowned in Sorrow

Aoibheann did not rise as a banshee out of hatred, but from a wound that never closed. Her incorporeal form drifts through places steeped in memory—ruins, abandoned groves, forgotten graves—seeking to discern whether her final song was a blessing, a curse, or simply a truth the world was not ready to bear.

Unlike most banshees, Aoibheann is neither wholly malevolent nor wholly benign. Her presence distorts emotion, magnifying grief and tenderness alike. She can soothe a restless spirit as easily as she can unravel a mortal’s resolve. Adventurers who cross her path may face a wrath born of centuries of betrayal—or the quiet plea of a soul asking to be heard at last.

The Song of Memory

Aoibheann’s music remains a paradox: potent, neutral, and deeply human. When carried by compassion, the melody can reconnect lost souls, heal emotional scars, or bring peace to the dead. When twisted by cruelty or desperation, it becomes a weapon of haunting power—summoning vengeful spirits, eroding will, and turning longing into obsession.

Its magic reacts not to words, but to intention.

Lair and Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing ties), Aoibheann can cause one of the following effects while in her lair:

  • Haunting Whispers. Ghostly voices invade the minds of creatures of her choice within 12 m. Each must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or take 10 (3d6) Psychic damage and have disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes before the end of its next turn.
  • Spectral Hands. Ethereal claws rise from the floor; each creature of her choice within 6 m must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be restrained until initiative count 20 of the next round.
  • Grief Made Manifest. The air fills with spectral images of those the creatures once loved. All enemies within 12 m must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or be charmed by the illusion until the start of Aoibheann’s next turn.
