Traits

False Innocent Form (Shapechanger)

The Wendigo Spawn can assume the appearance of a Small humanoid child.

  • It perfectly mimics speech, breathing, heartbeat, and mannerisms.

  • It radiates no evil or undead aura.

  • A creature must succeed on a DC 20 Insight check to notice something wrong (eyes don’t blink, breath doesn’t freeze properly, movement slightly jerky).

  • Detect Evil and Good, Divine Sense, and similar features do not reveal its true nature.

It reverts to its monstrous form if it drops to 0 HP.

Predatory Stillness

While motionless, the Spawn is indistinguishable from a corpse or an unconscious child.
Stealth checks made while motionless have advantage, and creatures have disadvantage to detect its breathing or pulse.

Dream-Feeder

If a creature within 5 feet is asleep or unconscious, the Spawn can feed on its dreams:

  • The creature must make a DC 18 Wisdom save at the start of each minute.

  • On a failure, it suffers 1 level of exhaustion and loses one expended spell slot of the highest level available.

  • If reduced to 0 HP during feeding, the target automatically gains another level of exhaustion.

Unnatural Hunger

When a creature within 60 ft. takes slashing, piercing, or psychic damage, the Spawn can smell the pain in the air.
It gains advantage on attack rolls against that creature until the end of its next turn.

Spider-Climb

The spawn can climb difficult surfaces, including ceilings, without a check.

Night Predator

In darkness or dim light, the Spawn has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks and cannot be tracked except by magical means.

Actions

Multiattack

The Wendigo Spawn makes three attacks: one with its Bite and two with its Claws.

Bite

Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 19 (3d8 + 5) piercing damage plus 14 (4d6) cold damage.

If the target is frightened, unconscious, or restrained:

  • It takes an additional 11 (2d10) necrotic damage,

  • And must make a DC 18 Constitution save or gain 1 level of exhaustion.

Claws

MeS: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft.
Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) slashing damage plus 9 (2d8) cold damage.

On a hit, the target must succeed on a DC 18 Strength save or be knocked prone.

Howl of Starving Winds (Recharge 5–6)

A supernatural shriek of hunger bursts from the Spawn.

All creatures of its choice within 60 ft. that can hear it must make a DC 18 Wisdom save or take:

  • 27 (6d8) psychic damage,

  • Become frightened for 1 minute,

  • And cannot regain hit points until the end of their next turn.

A creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns.

Bonus Actions

Rending Pounce

The Spawn moves up to half its speed and makes a claw attack. If the attack hits a prone creature, the attack deals extra 10 (3d6) necrotic damage.

Slip Into Shadows

While in dim light or darkness, the Spawn becomes invisible until the start of its next turn or until it attacks.

Reactions

Pain Scent Frenzy

When a creature within 30 feet takes damage, the Spawn may immediately move up to half its speed toward that creature without provoking opportunity attacks.

Glacial Reflex

If the Spawn would be hit by an attack, it can impose disadvantage on that attack roll by momentarily freezing its body into fractal ice.

Description

Emaciated yet impossibly strong, a Wendigo Spawn is a twisted remnant of a humanoid who succumbed to starvation, cannibalism, or the cursed call of a full-grown Wendigo. Though its body is gaunt and skeletal, every movement is disturbingly quick—jerky one moment, eerily smooth the next. Its limbs are far too long for its frame, ending in fingers like brittle icicles tipped with razor talons.

The spawn’s skin is pale and frostbitten, stretched tight over protruding bones. Its eyes glow with an unnatural, ravenous hunger—dull and desperate when imitating a helpless victim, but wide, predatory, and shining with malice when it reveals its true nature. Its breath fogs the air, carrying the faint stench of decay and cold earth.

Unlike a true Wendigo, a spawn cannot fully mimic the voices of those it has eaten, but it is adept at feigning weakness and terror. It often disguises itself as a frostbitten child, lost explorer, or injured traveler. Its voice is soft, cracked, and pleading, perfectly crafted to prey on compassion. When night falls or trust is earned, it strikes with terrifying ferocity.

Driven by a supernatural starvation that can never be sated, the Wendigo Spawn hunts not for sustenance, but for the thrill of devouring warm flesh. Whether acting alone or in packs under the control of a greater Wendigo, these creatures are clever, observant, and patient enough to stalk prey over several days. They favor ambushes while their victims sleep, paralyzing them with terror before tearing them apart.

A Wendigo Spawn’s presence chills the air, frosting nearby surfaces and extinguishing small flames. Animals flee from the scent of its curse, and even seasoned adventurers may feel an instinctive dread when one lurks nearby.
