NULL CROWN ADAPTATION (4/Day)
Aeternex does not merely resist effects—it rewrites them, learning from every attempt to bind, banish, or humble it. When Aeternex fails a saving throw, it can expend 1 use of Legendary Resistance to succeed instead.
Anti-Divine Presence
Creatures within 120 feet of Aeternex that have:
-
Spell slots of 6th level or higher
-
A divine spellcasting feature
-
A divine rank, boon, or ascension trait
…have disadvantage on attack rolls, saving throws, and concentration checks.
Gods and ascended beings automatically fail concentration checks when they take damage from Aeternex.
Null Crown Aura
Divine magic fails near Aeternex.
-
Divine spells of 6th level or lower cast within 60 ft. automatically fail and the slot is wasted.
-
Divine spells of 7th level or higher require a DC 22 spellcasting check or fail.
Non-divine magic functions normally—but draws the dragon’s attention.
Godsbane Scales
When Aeternex takes radiant damage, it instead heals the amount of damage done.
When it takes force damage, the attacker takes the same amount as necrotic damage (no save).
Multiattack
Aeternex makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Bite
Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target
Hit: 32 (4d10 + 10) piercing + 22 4d10 necrotic
If the target is a divine caster or ascended being, they lose their highest-level spell slot.
Claw
Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 10 ft.
Hit: 26 (4d8 + 10) slashing
Target must succeed on a DC 24 Con save or be weakened (disadvantage on Strength and Dexterity checks) until the end of their next turn.
Tail
Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 25 ft.
Hit: 30 (4d10 + 10) bludgeoning
Target must succeed on a DC 24 Str save or be knocked prone and restrained by spatial collapse until the end of their next turn.
Breath Weapon — Oblivion Exhalation (Recharge 5–6)
Aeternex exhales annihilating void in a 120-foot cone.
Creatures in the area must make a DC 24 Constitution saving throw:
-
Failure: 110 20d10 necrotic + force damage, divine creatures gain 1 exhaustion
-
Success: Half damage, no exhaustion
Divine effects in the area immediately end.
Suppress Apotheosis
One creature within 60 ft. must succeed on a DC 22 Charisma save or have:
-
All divine features suppressed until the end of their next turn
-
Flight granted by magic immediately ends
Punish Invocation
When a creature within 120 ft. casts a divine spell:
-
The spell fails
-
The caster takes 45 (10d8) psychic damage
-
Aeternex can move up to half its speed toward the caster
Aeternex can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below.
Void Step
Aeternex teleports up to 60 ft. to an unoccupied space it can see.
Shatter Faith
One creature Aeternex can see within 60 ft. must succeed on a DC 22 Wisdom save or be frightened until the end of its next turn. If already frightened, the creature instead takes 27 (6d8) psychic damage.
Wing of Unmaking (Costs 2 Actions)
Creatures within 20 ft. must make a DC 24 Dex save or take 26 (4d12) force damage and be knocked prone. Divine creatures automatically fail this save.
Erase the Ascended (Costs 3 Actions)
Aeternex targets one creature with divine abilities.
That creature must succeed on a DC 24 Charisma save or: Lose access to all divine abilities until the end of its next turn and take 55 (10d10) necrotic damage
If reduced to 0 HP by this ability, the creature cannot be revived by divine magic.
Eraser of Names
If Aeternex is reduced to 0 hit points, it does not die.
Instead:
Regains 300 hit points
Its Null Crown Aura expands to 120 ft.
All creatures with divine abilities gain 1 level of exhaustion immediately
Description
Aeternex is a colossal dragon whose scales resemble fractured obsidian veined with dull starlight. Its wings do not beat—they erase the air where they pass, leaving momentary voids. Ancient runes of negation are carved into its bones, glowing faintly whenever divine power is invoked nearby.
Where other dragons hoard treasure, Aeternex hoards dead gods.
It was not born—it was constructed by forgotten cosmic powers as a failsafe, unleashed only when divinity threatens the continuity of reality itself.
Mortals feel awe.
Gods feel fear.
Lair and Lair Actions
GODSLAYER SANCTUM
On initiative count 20 (losing ties):
-
Divine Silence: All divine spellcasting fails until count 20 next round.
-
Gravity Collapse: Areas become difficult terrain; flying creatures descend 30 ft.
-
Echoes of Dead Gods: Spectral remnants attack one random divine creature (DC 22 Wis save or take 22 psychic damage).
