Creche Spawn. The gemmule is a damaged or deviant tadpole that reached a different kind of maturity. Under the auspices of a Mind Flayer Creche Keeper, they're turned into a kind of guard-monster that can be called upon to protect the Creche. Their connection to their Creche Keeper is so strong, that if it moves more than 100 ft. away from it, it starts to wilt and die.
Magic Resistance. The gemmule has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Psychic Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (3d10) psychic damage.
Leech. The gemmule targets one creature within 5 feet of itself and forces the target to make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the gemmule enters the target’s space and attaches to the target. While the gemmule is attached, the target takes 7 (3d4) piercing damage at the start of each of its turns, and the gemmule can’t use Leech again until it detaches. It can detach itself by spending 5 feet of its movement. As an action, the target or a creature within 5 feet of the target can detach the gemmule by succeeding on a DC 15 Strength check.
Cerefluid Spray (Recharge 5–6). After taking damage from a melee attack, the beta gemmule spits partially digested cerefluid in a 30 ft. cone at its attacker. Any creature who comes into contact with the fluid must succeed on a DC 14 DEX saving throw or be blinded until the end of the beta gemmule's next turn.
Description
Due to the influence of separated Mind Flayer Creche Keepers, these mutated or deviated spawn no longer hatch into illithid tadpoles. Instead, when it reaches maturity, it is ejected from the mass as a beta gemmule.
When spawned, a beta gemmule appears as a misshapen, spindly legged, pyramid-shaped nugget of soft, fleshy matter. Due to the magical and psionic interference with its growth, these gemmules cannot form an encephalon. Instead, they form a bond with the Mind Flayer Creche Keeper who spawned them. The connection is so strong that beta gemmules start to disintegrate if they get more than 100 feet away from the Creche Keeper. Thus, it is always dependent on the Creche Keeper for food and safety, which exhibits itself in an almost dog-like trait of obeying and protecting its master- and its master's life work in the Creche Pool.
