Hearthbound. While the mimic is attached to or adjacent to a functioning heat source (such as a lit oven, forge, brazier, or open fire), it regains 5 hit points at the start of its turn.

Description

This mimic was once attacked by adventurers and left behind in the snow, where it remained immobile. It lay there until a man passed by, and the mimic managed to latch onto him, hiding unnoticed as the man traveled to a far-off place—a land of sand and heat. During the journey, the mimic chose not to attack the man, in gratitude for saving its life.

When the man returned to his village, the mimic stayed with him. It soon noticed that the man was struggling, as he was a baker whose stove was cracked and unable to cook bread properly. The mimic attached itself to the stove, not only to help the man, but also because something inside it had changed after being lost in the snow for so long. It always felt cold now and yearned to be warm again.

The man never questioned this, taking it as a blessing from the gods. Soon, his life began to improve. What had once been a day-to-day struggle eased, and he was able to thrive while supporting his family.

Eventually, people began breaking into the man’s shop at night, hoping to steal from him. After the first few times this happened, the mimic adapted. It made it appear as though a few coins had been left just out of reach inside the stove. Those who reached for them were met with a freezing bite, becoming the mimic’s meal.
