Traits

Summer Archfey Infusion. Aethyrios is considered both a dragon and a fey. Magical darkness within 120 feet of him is suppressed, and hostile illusion magic has disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throw DCs in that area.

Paragon of Midnight Light. Allies within 60 feet of Aethyrios have advantage on saving throws against spells and regain 15 hit points at the start of their turn if they have at least 1 hit point.

Starlit Wings. Opportunity attacks against Aethyrios are made with disadvantage. While flying, he sheds dim blue-gold light in a 60-foot radius. Allies in the light gain advantage on Wisdom saving throws.

Duality Unbroken. Aethyrios has advantage on saving throws against effects that would alter his alignment, compel obedience, or dominate his will.

Legendary Resistance (4/Day). If Aethyrios fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

Unusual Nature. Aethyrios doesn’t require food or drink.

Actions

Multiattack. Aethyrios makes three attacks: one with his bite and two with his claws, or two claws and one tail attack.

Hit: 38 (4d12 + 10) piercing damage plus 18 (4d8) radiant damage.

Aethyrios can use either breath weapon.

🔥 Breath of Solar Judgment. Aethyrios exhales divine flame in a 120-foot cone.DC 27 Dexterity save. Failure: 110 (20d10) fire and radiant damage. Success: Half damage. Creatures of evil alignment have disadvantage on the save.

🌫️ Breath of Starlit Repose. Aethyrios exhales shimmering night-mist in a 90-foot cone. Enemies must succeed on a DC 27 Wisdom save or be restrained by gravity and light until the end of their next turn. Allies instead regain 80 (20d8) hit points and end one charm, fear, or stun effect

Bonus Actions

Legendary Actions

Aethyrios can take 3 legendary actions.

Auric Wingbeat. Creatures within 20 feet take 21 (6d6) radiant damage and must succeed on a DC 27 Dex save or be knocked prone.

Starlight Glide. Aethyrios moves up to half his flying speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Judgment of the Just (Costs 2 Actions). One creature within 120 feet must make a DC 27 Cha save or take 36 (8d8) radiant damage; allies instead gain advantage on their next roll.

Description

Lore

When the Queen of Night and Magic sought to prove that all things could be bent to her will, she chose a gold greatwyrm — the purest embodiment of draconic virtue — as her experiment.

She failed.

Aethyrios was infused with her power in a ritual meant to eclipse his will beneath shadow and sorcery. His scales darkened to the color of a starless sky, threaded with glimmering gold like constellations breaking through night. His wings transformed into vast golden pinions veined with blue arcane light, glowing like ley lines across the heavens.

Yet his soul did not bend.

Where the Queen expected corruption, she found defiance through compassion. Aethyrios mastered the night without surrendering to it, becoming a living rebuke to the Archfey’s philosophy:

Power does not define morality. Choice does.

He now walks the world as a guardian against arcane tyranny, Fey manipulation, and cosmic imbalance — wielding the Queen’s magic without her cruelty.

Appearance

  • Massive gold greatwyrm, scales darkened to deep midnight blue-black

  • Veins and edges of scales glow with molten gold starlight

  • Wings are radiant gold, shot through with blue, rune-like veins of magic

  • Eyes shine sapphire-gold, calm and immeasurably wise

  • His presence dims hostile magic and steadies the hearts of allies

  • When he flies, the sky darkens briefly — then fills with stars

    Narrative Role

    • Living proof that power does not corrupt inevitability

    • Enemy of tyrannical Archfey, demon lords, and false gods

    • Possible divine ally or final moral test for high-level parties

    • A direct philosophical foil to corrupted or death-aligned greatwyrms
