Description
Aetherglides resemble small iguanas with smooth, jewel-toned scales—emerald, sapphire, amber, or pearlescent white—depending on where they hatched. Their wings are delicate and dragonfly-like, veined with faint glowing lines that shimmer when exposed to magic.
Their eyes are large and thoughtful, often following spellcasting with intense interest. When perched, they bask like normal reptiles, wings folded neatly against their sides like cloaks of glass.
They chirp softly instead of hissing.
Lore
Aetherglides are born in places where ambient magic settles instead of surging—wizard academies, ancient ruins, ley line crossroads, or floating isles. They are not created intentionally; rather, they form when harmless wildlife absorbs trace magical energy over generations.
Arcane researchers believe Aetherglides help bleed off excess magical pressure, preventing small wild surges. This may explain why spellcasting near them feels slightly smoother, calmer, or more stable.
They are not familiars by default—but many mages wish they were.
