Traits

Arcadian Discipline. The aegishound has advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t compel it to act against creatures it is sworn to protect.

Guardian’s Frame. When a creature the aegishound can see within 5 feet is hit by an attack, the aegishound can use its reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll by interposing itself.

Hold the Line. Creatures provoke opportunity attacks from the aegishound even if they take the Disengage action.

Unyielding Loyalty. If the aegishound is reduced to 0 hit points while within 10 feet of a bonded creature, it instead drops to 1 hit point and gains resistance to all damage and recieve double the healing from heal spells and potions, until the end of its next turn (once per long rest).

Actions

Bite. Melee Attack Roll: +8, reach 5 ft. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) Piercing damage.

Shove. Melee Attack Roll: +8, reach 5 ft. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 5) Bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Judgmental Grip (Recharge 5–6). The aegishound clamps down and holds. One creature hit by the bite must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be grappled (escape DC 15). While grappled, the creature is restrained, and the aegishound cannot bite another target.

Description

Aegishounds resemble massive pit bulls with broad chests, powerful jaws, and calm, steady eyes. Their coats are short and dense, often white, steel gray, brindled gold, or deep brown, marked with faint geometric patterns that resemble carved stone or lawful sigils.

Their presence is reassuring rather than intimidating. When they stand still, they look like statues set to guard gates that will never fall.

Their tails wag slowly. Deliberately.

Lore

Arcadia is a plane of lawful harmony, where compassion is enforced through structure and defense rather than indulgence. Aegishounds are bred not as weapons, but as guardians of the innocent, stationed at gates, civic halls, and celestial caravans.

They do not attack without cause.
But once they decide something is a threat, they do not let go.

Aegishounds are often entrusted to mortals who have demonstrated fairness, responsibility, and a willingness to stand between danger and others.

Temperament as a Companion

  • Calm, watchful, and extremely gentle with allies

  • Unshakable under pressure

  • Responds best to clear rules and routines

  • Dislikes chaos, cruelty, and injustice

  • Will physically block danger without hesitation

An aegishound doesn’t bark often.
When it does, someone has crossed a line.

Where a Party Might Encounter One

  • Guarding a planar courthouse or city gate

  • Assigned to protect refugees or innocents

  • Gifted to a champion of lawful good ideals

  • Standing vigil where peace must be enforced

In-World Saying

“The Arcadian dog does not ask who you are.
It asks who you would hurt.”
