Traits

Ferrous sense. The chromium dragon can sense and knows the exact location of any ferrous metals within 90ft of themselves.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the dragon fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Innate Spellcasting. The adult chromium dragon's innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom. The adult chromium dragon can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

At will: pace without trace (snow and ice only)

3/day: ice shape (identical to the stone shape spell but ice only)

Actions

Multi attack. The adult chromium dragon uses its frightful presence, makes a bite attack and two claw attacks.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 10 ft., 1 target. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage plus 5 (1d10) cold damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +11 to hit, reach 15 ft., 1 target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 6) bludgeoning damage.

Frightful Presence. Each creature of the dragon’s choice that is within 120 ft. of the dragon and aware of it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the dragon’s Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Breath Weapons (Recharges 5/6). The dragon uses one of the following breath weapons.

Ice lance breath. The chromium dragon exhales a large lance of ice that is 5ft wide and moves in a straight line up to 90ft. Each creature within the radius must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 52 (13d8) cold damage. Half as much on a successful save.

Freezing crystal breath. The chromium dragon exhales a mist of freezing crystals in a 90ft cone. Each creature within the radius must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or have their Dexterity stat reduced by 3. To restore the lost points of dexterity a creature must take either 10 points of fire damage or take a long rest for a full 8 hours within a warm area.

Legendary Actions

The adult chromium dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The adult chromium dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Detect. The dragon makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Tail Attack. The dragon makes a tail attack.

Wing Attack (Costs 2 Actions). The dragon beats its wings. Each creature within 10 ft. of the dragon must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw or take 12 (2d6 + 6) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The dragon can then fly up to half its flying speed.

Description

With scales that initially resemble tarnished silver and grow shinier as they age, it should be no surprise that Chrome Dragons are often mistaken for Silver Dragons. That would be a terrible mistake to make, as Chromium Dragons are known for their greed, malice and cruelty, which gives them a Chaotic Evil alignment in AD&D and a Lawful Evil one in 3e.

Avaricious enough to give a Red Dragon pause and sadistic enough to make a Black Dragon take notes, Chrome Dragons live for the sake of hunting treasure and killing anything that catches their attention. Although fully capable of living off of nothing but ice and snow, they vastly prefer raw, bloody meat.

Chrome Dragons inhabit only cold regions that see plenty of ice and snow, where their various innate powers over frost can be used most effectively. This brings them into conflict with both White and Silver Dragons, and whilst they are strong enough to easily dominate Whites, Silver Dragons are their deadliest enemies, and the two races will fight to the death upon sighting each other.
