Traits
- Mark of the DragonWolf. The DragonWolf has Advantage on attack rolls against any creature that you hit with a weapon attack since the end of your last turn.
- Spectral DragonWolf Bond. The DragonWolf shares your initiative count and acts immediately after your turn. It obeys your verbal commands (no action required). If you don't issue a command, the DragonWolf takes the Dodge action and uses its movement to avoid danger.
- Shared Resistance. When you summon the DragonWolf (or upon finishing a Long Rest), choose one damage type: Acid, Cold, Fire, Force, Lightning, or Poison. While the DragonWolf is within 60 feet of you, both you and the DragonWolf have Resistance to that damage type.
- DragonWolf Senses. The DragonWolf has Blindsight out to 30 feet and Darkvision out to 60 feet. Additionally, it has Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Actions
-
- Multiattack. The DragonWolf makes a number of Rend attacks equal to your Proficiency Bonus (PB) -1 cap of 4. Starting at character level 5, the DragonWolf can replace one of these attacks with its Breath Weapon once per turn.
- Rend. Melee Attack Roll: Your Spell Attack Modifier to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6 + 3 + your PB piercing damage.
- Breath Weapon (Unlocks at Level 5). The DragonWolf exhales a 30-foot cone of energy. The damage type is the one chosen for its Shared Resistance. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your Spell Save DC. Hit: 2d6 + your PB damage of that type. Succeed: Half damage.
Bonus Actions
-
Bonus Action: Spectral Ambush
The DragonWolf teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see. If it ends this movement within 5 feet of a creature you hit with a weapon attack this turn, the DragonWolf can immediately make one Rend attack against that creature.- Level 7 Upgrade: The teleport range increases to 60 feet.
Movement: Phase Shift (Unlocks at Level 5)
The DragonWolf can move through other creatures and objects as if they were Difficult Terrain. If it ends its turn inside an object, it takes 1d10 Force damage and is shunted to the nearest unoccupied space.Action: Dread-Apex Howl (1/Day)
The DragonWolf lets out a resonant, spectral roar. Each creature of its choice within 30 feet must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your Spell Save DC or be Frightened for 1 minute. While Frightened by this roar, a creature has a Speed of 0 and Disadvantage on Saving Throws. A creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.- Level 7 Upgrade: This roar bypasses Immunity to the Frightened condition for any creature with a Challenge Rating (CR) of 10 or lower.
Reaction: Elemental Deflection (Unlocks at Level 11)
The DragonWolf can use its Reaction to reduce the damage it takes from one attack by an amount equal to [Your Proficiency Bonus + Character Level].
Reactions
- Draconic Interception. When a creature the DragonWolf can see hits you with a melee attack while the DragonWolf is within 5 feet of that creature, it can use its reaction to make one Rend attack against the attacker.
- Spectral Vengeance (Unlocks at Level 5). When the DragonWolf takes damage from a creature within 5 feet of it, it can use its reaction to force that creature to make a Wisdom saving throw against your Spell Save DC. On a failed save, the creature takes 1d6 psychic damage and has Disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.
- Elemental Deflection (Unlocks at Level 11). The DragonWolf readies its spectral energy. Until the start of its next turn, it can use its reaction to reduce the damage it takes from one attack by an amount equal to your Proficiency Bonus + 6.
Description
-
Physical Appearance
The DragonWolf is a striking fusion of apex predators. It stands as a massive canine with a thick, lupine coat that transitions into shimmering, overlapping draconic scales along its spine, haunches, and underbelly. Its head features a long, powerful muzzle with rows of serrated teeth and a pair of majestic, swept-back horns. Starting at Level 5, when it gains its flight speed, ethereal, tattered wings of spectral light sprout from its shoulders.Spectral Nature
As a spectral entity, its form is not entirely solid. It appears semi-translucent, with wisps of elemental energy—matching your chosen Shared Resistance—curling off its paws like smoke. Its eyes are pinpoints of intense light that pierce through the darkest shadows, reflecting its DragonWolf Senses.Temperament and Behavior
The DragonWolf is intensely loyal, bound by a Spectral Bond to you. In combat, it behaves with the cold, calculated efficiency of a pack hunter, constantly looking for the "Mark" you place on enemies via the Mark of the DragonWolf trait to strike with Advantage. It rarely barks; instead, it communicates through low, rumbling growls that sound like shifting stone or its signature Dread-Apex Howl, which vibrates through the very souls of those who hear it.Origin Lore
Legends say the first DragonWolf was born from a pact between an ancient dragon of the clouds and a moon-worshiping wolf pack. Others believe they are the Dacian Dracos—guardian spirits of nature that only manifest when a worthy warrior calls them from the ethereal plane.
