Traits

Exclusive Pilot (Purple Shadow Ranger). Only Vaelzaryn the Drowned King (or a creature specifically bound by his void sigil) can pilot or command the Void Spinosaurus Zord.

Colossal Frame. The Void Spinosaurus can move through the space of Large or smaller creatures. It can move through Huge creatures’ spaces as difficult terrain.

Negative Plane Reactor. At the start of each of the zord’s turns, it regains 30 hit points if it has at least 1 hit point.

Eldritch Sail. The massive void-sail on the zord’s back projects a psychic distortion field. Enemies within 30 feet have disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws and Perception checks.

Void Overdrive (Recharge 5–6). Until the end of the zord’s next turn, its attacks deal an extra 22 (5d8) necrotic and psychic damage on a hit, and it has advantage on all attack rolls.

Actions

Multiattack. The Void Spinosaurus makes three attacks: one with its Void Maw, one with its Rending Claws, and one with its Void Tail.

Void Maw. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 48 (6d10 + 10) piercing damage plus 27 (6d8) necrotic damage. If the target is Huge or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 26). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained.

Rending Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 38 (4d12 + 10) slashing damage plus 18 (4d8) psychic damage.

Void Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 25 ft., one target. Hit: 36 (4d10 + 10) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 26 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone and pushed 30 feet.

Void Flood Cannon (Recharge 5–6). The zord exhales a torrent of void energy and negative-plane water in a 120-foot line that is 15 feet wide. Each creature in the line must make a DC 26 Constitution saving throw, taking 99 (18d10) necrotic and cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Creatures reduced to 0 hit points by this attack begin dissolving into shadowy sludge.

Abyssal Drag. One creature grappled by the zord must succeed on a DC 26 Strength saving throw or be pulled into the zord’s space and take 45 (10d8) necrotic damage.

Bonus Actions

Shadow Surge. The zord moves up to half its speed or swim speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Reactions

Void Counterlash. When the zord is hit by a melee attack, it can make one Rending Claws attack against the attacker.

Legendary Actions

The Void Spinosaurus can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Void Spinosaurus regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Claw Strike. The zord makes one Rending Claws attack.

Tail Sweep. The zord makes one Void Tail attack.

Void Lunge (Costs 2 Actions). The zord moves up to its speed and makes one Void Maw attack.

Description

Void Spinosaurus Zord

The Drowned Apex, Sovereign of the Black Tide

Physical Description

The Void Spinosaurus Zord is a nightmare of shadow-forged steel and negative energy. Its massive, crocodilian frame is plated in jagged, void-black armor that seems to drink in light rather than reflect it. Veins of pulsing violet energy crack through its body like living scars, illuminating runes of Deep Speech etched into its plating.

Its towering sail is a colossal fin of crystallized void-energy, constantly shedding shards of purple light that dissolve into shadow mist before touching the ground. The sail hums with psychic pressure, warping perception and causing reality itself to feel thin and distorted in its presence.

At the center of its chest burns a churning void-core — a miniature negative-plane vortex that radiates cold, despair, and crushing psychic weight. Water around the Zord turns black and oily, rippling unnaturally as if afraid to touch it.

Its eyes glow with cruel violet intelligence, and its jaws drip with shadow energy that hisses and evaporates like acidic mist when it strikes the ground.

Origin & Creation

The Void Spinosaurus Zord was not forged — it was grown.

Deep within a Negative Plane sub-realm known as the Drowned Expanse, Shadow Fey artificers and void-warlocks cultivated this Zord around a captured fragment of an Abyssal Leviathan’s soul.

This soul-fragment was bound into a void-forged chassis and amplified through eldritch reactor arrays, creating a Zord that is partially construct and partially living nightmare.

Unlike the Light Zords, which are built as sacred guardians, the Void Spinosaurus was designed as a terror weapon — meant to crush morale, warp reality, and dominate both land and sea with eldritch supremacy.

The Bond with the Purple Shadow Ranger

Vaelzaryn does not merely pilot the Void Spinosaurus — he communes with it.

The Zord’s Leviathan fragment resonates with his unknown patron, creating a feedback loop of whispered commands, psychic visions, and shared hunger. Some Shadow Rangers believe Vaelzaryn’s true patron is not a distant Great Old One — but something directly bound within the Void Spinosaurus itself.

When fully synchronized, Vaelzaryn can see through the Zord’s eyes even when not piloting it, sensing disturbances in shadow, water, and Negative Plane energy across vast distances.

Shadow Fey texts refer to this pact as:

“The Black Tide Covenant.”

Role in the Planar War

The Void Spinosaurus is deployed as both flagship and executioner:

  • Dominating coastal and river battlefields

  • Engaging Light Zords in brutal head-on clashes

  • Breaking aerial and naval superiority

  • Spreading psychic terror among enemy forces

  • Acting as the spearhead of Shadow Zord assaults

Its arrival is often preceded by unnatural tides, black rain, and the sensation of drowning — even far from water.

Among the Light Rangers and celestial scouts, it is known as:

“The Drowned King’s Shadow”
“The Black Leviathan”
“The Sovereign of the Black Tide”

Legends & Rumors

  • Some believe the Void Spinosaurus still contains fragments of a living god-beast’s consciousness.

  • Others whisper that it grows stronger each time it destroys a Light Zord.

  • A forbidden Negative Plane prophecy states that if the Void Spinosaurus ever devours a Megazord component, it may evolve into something far worse.

Story Hooks

You can use the Void Spinosaurus Zord to:

  • Introduce the Shadow Rangers as a true existential threat

  • Stage naval or coastal kaiju battles

  • Create psychic horror and eldritch corruption arcs

  • Serve as Vaelzaryn’s personal war-beast

  • Set up a legendary rematch with the Solar Tyrant Rex
