Traits

Cyclonic Form: The bonestrom can enter a hostile creature’s space and stop there.

False Appearance: While the bonestrom remains motionless on the ground, it is indistinguishable from an ornately carved marble column.

Magical Sustainability: The bonestrom does not require food or drink.

Actions

Multiattack: The bonestrom makes three Bone Protrusion attacks.

Bone Protrusion: Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 22 (4d8 + 4) bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage (bonestrom’s choice).

Whirlwind (Recharge 5-6): Each creature within 5 feet of the bonestrom must make a DC 16 Strength saving throw. On a failure, a target takes 27 (6d8) bludgeoning damage and is flung up to 20 feet away from the bonestrom in a random direction and knocked prone. If a thrown target strikes an object, such as a wall or floor, the target takes 3 (1d6) bludgeoning damage for every 10 feet it was thrown. If the saving throw is successful, the target takes half as much damage and isn’t flung or knocked prone.

Description

Bonestrom (both the singular and plural forms of the creature’s name) are large, rapidly spinning columns of bones, talons, and teeth. The constituent fangs and bones appear to come from many different creatures, but they do not resemble those of any known animal. The sharpened protrusions are in fact the creature’s own bones, emerging in all directions from its sinuous, inside-out body.

Bonestrom allegedly hail from some dark, otherworldly realm and are frequently summoned by powerful spellcasters to serve as guardians of places or objects of magical power. While motionless, the bonestrom’s parts arrange themselves into what appears to be an ornately carved column of bone-white stone. This allows a bonestrom to blend in with the architecture of the location it was summoned to protect.
