Description
A necromancer (wizard, lich, or dark priest) performs a ritual to raise corpses. This typically involves channeling dark energy, such as from a forbidden grimoire, a magical artifact, or a pact with death gods. Steps might include drawing runes or circles on the ground, sacrificing blood or life force, and chanting spells to bind souls back to decayed bodies. Once reanimated, most zombies are mindless thralls, stripped of free will and forced to labor eternally for the bokor. This isn't a true resurrection but a form of soul-trapping necromancy, where the person's spirit is captured in a vessel like a bottle, leaving the body as an empty husk. The awoken zombie has been touched by an extra source of magic, giving it a higher awareness of itself and its surroundings. They are used by necromancers as higher level soldiers who are put in charge of the basic zombies in their army. They are often chained to keep them from leaving on their own.
