Description

A monstrous thunderbird-dragon that terrorizes the skies of the Dragon’s Keep arena. Hatched from corrupted piasa eggs long thought destroyed, Caraxes is an ancient avian drake of scaled feathers, cracking storm powers, and a jagged chrome beak. It hunts like a winged tyrant of the skies, choosing when to appear with thundering roars, bringing lightning and winds. In darkness, its eyes glow like horrible emeralds, alight with storms.

Caraxes is no true dragon, but an ancient Piasa-spawned storm drake, born of sky and thunder, it has grown terrifying and cunning. Its wings create storms, its cries split stone, and its presence warps the weather for miles. It roosts in the battleground, its lair below its arena. Caraxes hoards wreckage, relics, trophies, broken war machines and scorched banners it claims from those slain beneath its shadowed wings.

Lair and Lair Actions

The Arena is constructed of Packed Earth and run on dirt (Automatic D1 Hazard). The Black Areas are 15′ high packed earth and require a climbing skill +2 to make it to the top. As the sides are packed earth, they will naturally absorb damage from small arms fire, lasers, flamethrowers and most vehicular mounted guns. Caraxes has magically reinforced the walls to absorb damage from rockets and collisions. Missed rocket fire will continue in a straight line until it impacts with a wall and then will cause a (1″ game scale) fireball equal in damage to the rocket’s damage. Fireball lasts for 1 second and affects any vehicle that runs into it.

There is one entrance into the Arena. It mystically seals and becomes a wall once the duel starts and will not open until the criteria of the duel has been met.

Caraxes’ Keep is located in a cavern 5 stories below ground and is accessed via a winding staircase in the old Head Start building in the Northwest corner of the map. Caraxes houses his minions and members of his army in the various rooms on the first floor.

Each Round Caraxes rolls a D20, on a 20 one of these three things happens:

Falling Debris: Stone and debris rain down. Dexterity Saving Throw: DC 15, One creature Caraxes can see. Failure: 14 (4d6) Bludgeoning damage.

Lightning Sigils. Arcane runes flare — one random creature takes 10 (3d6) Lightning damage.

Storm Surge: Strong winds whip through the arena. Anything flying except Caraxes must succeed on a DC 15 Strength save or be pushed 20 feet..
