Beastlands Instinct. While on natural terrain, the abelisaurus has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and Wisdom (Survival) checks.
Burst Predator. On the first round of combat, the abelisaurus has advantage on attack rolls against creatures that have not yet taken a turn.
Relentless Pursuit. If a creature the abelisaurus can see moves at least 10 feet away from it, the abelisaurus can use its reaction to move up to half its speed toward that creature.
Multiattack. The abelisaurus makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Claw.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 3) piercing damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage.
Savage Lunge (Recharge 5–6). The abelisaurus moves up to 20 feet without provoking opportunity attacks and makes one Bite attack. If the attack hits, the target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Description
Lean, aggressive, and terrifyingly fast over short distances, abelisaurs are mid-tier predators of the Beastlands grasslands. Unlike apex hunters, they rely on explosive speed, brutal bites, and relentless pursuit rather than sheer size. Their presence keeps herbivore populations moving, preventing stagnation in the eternal wilderness.
Behavior & Ecology
Abelisaurs hunt alone or in mated pairs, preferring open terrain where they can accelerate quickly and force prey into panicked flight. They are impatient killers—if a hunt drags on too long, they often abandon it rather than risk injury. In the Beastlands, their sudden attacks are seen as manifestations of nature’s intolerance for weakness.
Variant: Scarred Plains Stalker
Older abelisaurs often bear ritualistic scars from failed hunts.
