  • Fetch the Relic. When the Retainer is first summoned to the battlefield, it can immediately move up to half its speed and search for a magic item or relic within its reach, bringing it back to a Vampire ally.

  • Grave Hunger. If the Retainer is in the graveyard, it can claw its way back to the material plane. By consuming a portion of a "Vampire" ally's essence (the ally takes 5 necrotic damage), the Retainer returns to life in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of that ally with 10 hit points.

  • Pack Tactics. The Retainer has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the Retainer's allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

 

Actions

 

  • Shadow Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) necrotic damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked Prone.

  • Frightful Growl (Recharge 5–6). The Retainer emits a low, supernatural growl. Each creature within 15 feet must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or be Frightened until the end of its next turn.

Description

The Vampire Retainer is an agile predator with moderate offensive power but very low physical durability (0 DEF). Unlike the natural Silver Fang, this wolf is partially made of shadow and is bound eternally to the vampire hierarchy.

In combat, the Retainer acts as the ultimate "harassment unit." It uses its speed to knock enemies prone, creating openings for the Vampire Lord or Vampire Vamp to deliver a finishing blow. Even if the players manage to kill the dog, its Grave Hunger allows it to constantly reappear at its master's side, making it a relentless nuisance.
