Traits
  • Tactical Exchange. Once per turn, the Baron can expend a portion of its own vitality to sow confusion. It chooses one creature it can see within 60 feet and one allied Vampire creature. The target must succeed on a DC 14 Charisma saving throw or the two creatures magically swap positions, and the target is charmed by the Baron until the start of its next turn.

  • Infernal Steed. The Baron is mounted on a nightmare-like horse with a crimson mane. While mounted, the Baron has advantage on melee attack rolls against any unmounted creature that is smaller than the mount.

  • Battlefield Resurrection. If the Baron reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack, it can immediately use its bonus action to raise that creature as a zombie under its control. The creature rises with 1 hit point and acts on the Baron's initiative.

Actions

  • Multiattack. The Baron makes two attacks with its Cursed Lance.

  • Cursed Lance. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 ($2d12 + 5$) piercing damage plus 7 ($2d6$) necrotic damage. If the Baron moved at least 20 feet straight toward the target before the hit, the target takes an extra 13 ($2d12$) piercing damage.

  • Trample. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 ($2d8 + 5$) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Description

The Baron’s most dangerous tool is Tactical Exchange, which it uses to pull a squishy spellcaster into the middle of the Shadow Vampire pack while sending a durable ally away from the fight. Any hero that falls to his lance does not stay down, quickly becoming an undead puppet that the party is forced to strike down themselves.
