Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d10 + 2) slashing damage.
Snatching Strike. If the baryonyx hits a Medium or smaller creature with its Bite while the target is in water, the target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be grappled (escape DC 12). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the baryonyx can’t bite another target.
Description
A semi-aquatic predator of the Beastlands’ winding rivers, the baryonyx is a patient fisher and opportunistic hunter. Slightly smaller than its greater spinosaurid kin, it relies on precision rather than raw dominance. Its long, crocodile-like snout bristles with conical teeth ideal for gripping slippery prey, and its powerful foreclaws help pin thrashing fish—or desperate land animals—against the riverbank.
Though primarily a piscivore, a hungry baryonyx will not hesitate to scavenge or prey upon weakened creatures during harsh seasons.
