Mental Reinforcement: When a saving throw would cause the Astral Chicken to take Psychic damage, it takes half damage on a failed save and no damage on a successful one. In addition, it gains advantage on saving throws against the Frightened condition.
Egg Trinket. Once per day, the Astral Chicken may lay an egg containing a trinket of the DM's choice that will act as a portal key. While the portal entrance is a mystery to the players, the color of the egg corresponds to where the portal exit lies; roll a D12 or decide on your own what color the egg will be:
- Silver- Astral Plane
- Green- Material Plane
- Black- Shadowfell
- Pink- Feywild
- Blue- Elemental Plane of Water
- Red- Elemental Plane of Fire
- Brown- Elemental Plane of Earth
- White- Elemental Plane of Air
- Crystal- Ethereal Plane
- Yellow- The Outlands
- Rainbow- A random Outerplane
- Gold- Somewhere in Sigil
Multiattack. The Astral Chicken makes three Peck attacks.
Peck. Melee Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 2) Piercing damage.
Nimble Escape. The Astral Chicken can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of its turns.
Glide. When the Astral Chicken falls at least 10 feet above the ground, it can use its reaction to open its wings and glide in a random direction a number of feet equal to its walking speed, and it takes 0 damage from the fall.
Feather Step. If the Astral Chicken takes damage during the round, it can use its reaction to teleport to an unoccupied space it can see within 30 ft of it. When it uses this feature, it leaves behind a 10ft sphere of feathers and dust that remains until the end of its next turn. The area is Heavily Obscured
Description
Astral Chickens are 4ft tall, semi-flightless birds with black feathers covered in shiny silver specks. Their large, hooked beaks give credence to the theory that they are descended from axe beaks that were transported to the Astral plane ages ago and adapted to the realm. Whatever their origin, they are now much more relaxed than their probable cousins and spend most of their time traversing the plane and finding portals to places where they can lay their eggs.
