Traits

Beastlands Instinct. While on natural terrain, the becklespinax has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and Wisdom (Survival) checks.

Aggressive. As a bonus action, the becklespinax can move up to its speed toward a hostile creature it can see.

Spinecrest Display. When the becklespinax reduces a creature to 0 hit points, each enemy within 15 feet that can see it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of its next turn.

Reckless Ferocity. At the start of its turn, the becklespinax can gain advantage on all melee attack rolls during that turn, but attack rolls against it have advantage until the start of its next turn.

Actions

Multiattack. The becklespinax makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) slashing damage.

Raking Frenzy (Recharge 5–6). The becklespinax makes two Claw attacks against one target. If both hit, the target takes an extra 9 (2d8) slashing damage.

Description

Recognizable by the tall, jagged spines rising along its back, the becklespinax is a volatile predator of the Beastlands. Unlike more patient hunters, it is quick to anger and quicker to attack. The sail-like ridge along its spine flushes with deep crimson hues when agitated, a primal warning display moments before violence erupts.

At 8 meters long, it is not the largest carnivore of the plane—but few are as recklessly aggressive.

Behavior & Ecology

Becklespinax are solitary and territorial. They do not stalk quietly for long; instead, they rely on intimidation and overwhelming force. Other predators avoid areas claimed by a spinecrest ravager, as these dinosaurs are known to attack even when not hungry.

In the Beastlands, their roars echo across the plains like rolling thunder, often scattering herds before the predator even arrives.
