Traits

Engine of pain: When bloodied, all necrotic damage inflicted and taken heals Vortex of blades for the same number as was dealt or received.

Shadowstrike: Vortex may roll  +D12 to damage for a hit by its claws, the result of the extra D12 is also taken as damage by Vortex, Vortex cannot reduce this damage in any way, but may heal it in others.

Actions

Multiattack: The vortex has 2 claw attacks per round.

Claws: +8 to hit 10ft reach, 1 target: 2D12+5 (16) Slashing damage  +2D6 (7) Necrotic damage + Cleave- Make a bonus attack vs any in reach that Vortex has not hit this turn. If there are no targets not hit this turn then cleave ends, each cleave needs a claw attack to hit to initiate.

Bonus Actions

Bestial Fury: Vortex takes 30 damage that cannot be reduced in any way (but may be healed) and may add +2 to checks, saves, attacks and damage rolls. This lasts for the rest of the encounter.

Description

Wights are intelligent undead humanoids. Vortex appears as a rough human with long arms and oversized hands tipped with wicked massive claws that almost drag along the ground.

Note: Doppel, Dread Pirate, Ominous A and Vortex of blades are a group. Combined they are exceedingly dangerous.

These monsters are intentionally lethal at their stated CR when fought head‑on. They are designed to collapse quickly if players identify and exploit a specific engagement vector (isolation, de‑escalation, denial, etc.). The goal is to return design space to monsters by breaking the assumption that CR implies frontal safety.
If you don’t like these specific monsters, that’s fine. The intent is that you take the structure—lethal in formation, fair when dismantled—and apply it to your own creatures.
