Traits

Evasion. If Valtheris is subjected to an effect that allows him to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, he instead takes no damage on a success.

Mounted Aerialist. While mounted on his Griffin, Valtheris does not provoke opportunity attacks when flying out of an enemy's reach.

Sky Knight’s Dominion. Creatures flying within 120 feet of Valtheris have their fly speed halved unless they are Celestials.

Vanguard of the Clouds (Mounted Bonus). While mounted, Valtheris has Advantage on all melee attack rolls against any creature that isn't currently in the air.

Perfect Synchronization (Mounted Bonus). While mounted, Valtheris's flying speed is doubled. Additionally, the Griffin can use its reaction to allow Valtheris to automatically succeed on a saving throw against an effect that would knock him off his mount.

The Bond of the Fallen. Valtheris and his Griffin are spiritually linked. When Valtheris is reduced to 150 Hit Points or fewer, the Griffin’s life force is fully consumed to keep its master alive. The Griffin immediately dies, falling from the sky, and Valtheris’s own wings erupt in a burst of solar fire, making him immune to the stunned and incapacitated condition.

Actions

Multiattack. Valtheris makes three attacks with his Sun-Halberd.

Sun-Halberd. Melee Weapon Attack: +16 to hit, reach 10 ft. Hit: 21 (3d8 + 9) slashing damage plus 18 (4d8) radiant damage.

Imperial Bolt (Recharge 5–6). Valtheris points his halberd. A beam of solar wind strikes a 100-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature must make a DC 21 Dexterity save, taking 55 (10d10) radiant damage on a fail, or half on success.

Bonus Actions

Aerial Mark. Valtheris targets one creature he can see. Until the start of his next turn, that creature provokes opportunity attacks from Valtheris even if they take the Disengage action, and even if they're moved against their will. Valtheris deals an extra 14 (4d6) Radiant damage whenever he hits that target until the beginning of his next turn.

Reactions

Deflector Sweep. Whenever Valtheris or his Griffin is hit by a ranged weapon attack, he can use his reaction to parry the projectile with his halberd. The damage is reduced by 2d10 + 16. If the damage is reduced to 0, he reflects the projectile back at the attacker or another target within 60 feet, using his own attack bonus for the roll.

Legendary Actions

3/Round.

  • Flyby: The Griffin moves up to half its fly speed.

  • Skyward Toss: Valtheris attempts to hook a creature with his halberd. +16 to hit. On a hit, the target is grappled. Valtheris can then use his movement to carry them over a ledge.

  • Solar Flare (Costs 2 Actions): Valtheris’s armor flashes. Each creature within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 21 Constitution save or be Blinded until the end of Valtheris's next turn.

Description

Physical Appearance. Valtheris is a striking, lean figure clad in "living" golden scale armor that ripples like water. Unlike Khoran’s heavy obsidian, Valtheris’s gear is aerodynamic and elegant. His helmet features a stylized eagle-beak visor, and a long, flowing cape of white silk trails behind him, never tangling in the wind. The Sun-Griffin is a massive, mutated beast. Its front half is a regal white eagle with feathers tipped in gold, while its rear is a powerful snow leopard. Its eyes are globes of pure solar energy, and it leaves a faint trail of golden mist in the air as it flies.

Personality & Behavior. Valtheris is the Arrogant Duelist. He views himself as the ultimate predator of the skies and the party as flightless insects. He speaks with a sharp, piercing tone, often mocking the players for their reliance on "clumsy" magic or ground-based tactics.

  • The Predator's Logic: He doesn't just attack; he "hunts." He will focus on the most mobile player first, seeking to strip away their freedom of movement before dropping them into the abyss.

  • Knightly Code: He has a warped sense of honor. He may temporarily stop attacking a player who is falling just to watch them struggle, or he might challenge a single player to an "aerial joust."

Signature Combat Aesthetic. Valtheris is a blur of motion. His attacks aren't heavy thuds; they are high-pitched whistles and flashes of light. When he and the Griffin dive, the air should scream. He is the master of the "6 km drop"—his favorite tactic isn't killing a player with his halberd, but simply taking away the ground beneath them.
