Description

Found exclusivley in heavily forested areas, the akateko is an elusive opponent. Very little about it is known, although many speculate on its true nature. What is known is the following: It is primarily arboreal in nature, small, impossible to see, and often attacks travelers. These attacks occur suddenly, and are announced by the creatures signature call of "Akatekoketaka" in the form of a high-pitched screech that seemingly comes from nowhere and everywhere at the same time. An actual akateko attack isn't very worrisome unless a teammate is already injured, as their unseen attacks only leave shallow cuts and do not last long. The nature of an akateko attack has raised several questions as to its purpose. Are they a strange method of obtaining food? Are they warning us away from something? Are they just entertaining themselves? Whatever the reason they attack, akateko are easy to drive off. If one cannot wait out the attack, a sudden loud sound, AoE spell, or leaving the forest all work.

Curiously, akateko never attack dryads and other beings associated with the various forces of nature. No one, not even the nature spirits themselves, can offer an explanation.
