Keen Hearing and Smell. The alpha dire wolf has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
Pack Tyrant. The alpha dire wolf has advantage on attack rolls against a creature if at least one of the wolf’s allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn’t incapacitated. In addition, allies of the alpha dire wolf within 30 feet of it have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
Charged Pelt. The alpha dire wolf’s scarred hide is dense with coarse, plate-like fur that ripples with currents of electricity. When a creature within 5 feet hits the wolf with a melee attack, that creature takes 4 (1d8) lightning damage.
Relentless Hunter. If the alpha dire wolf moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a Bite attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 7 (2d6) slashing damage and must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Call of the Last Hunt. When the Alpha Dire Wolf is first reduced to half its hit point maximum or lower, it releases a desperate, commanding howl and summons two Spirit Wolves in unoccupied spaces within 30 feet of it. These spirit wolves act immediately after the alpha in the initiative order and remain for 1 minute, until the alpha dies, or until they are reduced to 0 hit points. Once the Alpha Dire Wolf uses this trait, it cannot do so again until it finishs a long rest.
Multiattack. The alpha dire wolf makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Raking Claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
Raking Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage. If the target is prone, the attack deals an extra 7 (2d6) slashing damage.
Tyrant’s Howl. (Recharge 5–6) The alpha dire wolf unleashes a crushing howl. Each enemy of the wolf’s choice within 30 feet that can hear it must make a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 6 (2d6) lightning damage and is stunned until the start of the wolf’s next turn. Allied beasts and wolf-like creatures within 30 feet that hear the howl may immediately use their reactions to move up to half their speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Warp Step. The alpha dire wolf teleports, along with a willing creature of its choice within 5 feet of it, up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.
Mark of the Predator. The alpha dire wolf marks one creature it can see within 30 feet. For as long as that creature remains marked, the first time the alpha deals damage to that creature each round they take an extra 6 (1d12) Lightning damage.
Static Shock. When a creature within 5ft of the alpha wolf attempts to move more than 10ft it can use its reaction to deliver a static shot dealing 6 (2d6) lightning damage.
Description
The Alpha Dire Wolf is a towering, scar-mapped predator bred in hardship and proven in blood. Its body is broader and heavier than lesser dire wolves, with shoulders like a warhorse and a chest thick with old muscle and layered, iron-stiff fur. Along its spine, the coarse pelt rises in ridged plates like dull-scaled armor, giving the beast a half-natural, half-monstrous look, as though its hide has learned to harden under years of violence.
Its jaws are massive even by dire wolf standards, filled with broken and regrown teeth that jut at odd, brutal angles. One look at the creature makes it plain that this is no mere hunter of deer and stragglers — this is a pack ruler, a beast that has fought rivals, survived spear lines, and learned to bring down prey by force, terror, and relentless coordination. Its eyes are unnervingly intelligent, fixed with the cold certainty of something that knows exactly where weakness lies in a formation.
What truly sets the Alpha Dire Wolf apart is its presence. Lesser beasts lean with its motion, flinch at its growl, and spring at the sound of its howl. That howl is not just a call, but a command — a violent pulse of predatory will that freezes prey in place and sends the pack crashing in behind it. To face one is to understand that wolves do not only kill with fang and speed. The greatest of them kill with fear, order, and the certainty that once they have chosen you, the pack is already moving.
