Traits

Sacred Oath. The divine power of the paladin's sacred oath allows the warrior spirit to grow in power over time. Their hit points become a number equal to the paladin's Charisma modifier + 5 times the paladin's level. The following numbers increase by 1 when the paladin's proficiency bonus increases by 1: the warrior spirit's AC, their skill and saving throw proficiency bonuses (above), their bonuses to hit and damage rolls with their greatsword and heavy crossbow, and their bonus to AC when using their parry ability. The paladin may heal the warrior spirit with their lay on hands ability, but the warrior spirit cannot be healed by other means.

Holy Weapons. The warrior spirit's weapons are considered magical for the purpose of overcoming damage resistance, and the warrior spirit cannot be disarmed.

Actions

Multiattack. Once the paladin with whom the warrior spirit shares a sacred oath reaches 11th level as a paladin, The warrior spirit can make two melee attacks.

Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) slashing damage.

Heavy Crossbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, range 100/400 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d10) piercing damage.

Leadership (5-6). Until the start of their next turn, the warrior spirit can watch the battlefield, uttering a special command or warning whenever a nonhostile creature that it can see within 30 feet of it makes an attack roll or a dexterity saving throw. The creature can roll with advantage, provided it can hear and understand the warrior spirit. This effect ends if the warrior spirit is incapacitated.

Reactions

Parry. The warrior spirit adds 2 to its AC or the AC of any other creature within 5 feet against one melee attack that would hit. To do so, the warrior spirit must see the attacker.

Description

The warrior spirit was someone who was not yet ready to leave the material plane. When some paladins make an oath, a warrior spirit may choose to bind themself to the paladin to help them fulfill their oath. Perhaps they were also paladins in life, who now desire to prove their continued dedication, or perhaps they were simply a warrior, who was disappointed with the state of the world they left behind. Their name and reasons for remaining might be a mystery for many years, if these details are even possible to learn, but what truly matters is the oath now shared.
