Description

Auditory Leeches aren’t much bigger than your hand. You’d walk right past one, thinking it’s just another slick, black slug. Their skin looks stretched and uneasy—almost see-through if you catch the light—so you can spot those thin red veins underneath. If you flip one over, its belly bristles with tiny hooks, perfect for grabbing pipes, rafters, or slippery stone.

Forget eyes. These things don’t have any. All they’ve got is a big, round mouth, circled by trembling tendrils that twitch whenever they catch the slightest sound.

Light and darkness? Doesn’t matter to them. What gets them moving is noise. Raised voices, shouts, someone crying out, even the hum of magic—anything loud enough will drag them from hiding.

And when one’s ready to eat, it clamps onto your throat, jaw, or ear and starts siphoning off sound. First, your voice goes thin. Then it just disappears. Hang around long enough, and it won’t stop at your voice—footsteps, breathing, even the sound of your own screams gets wiped out. All you’re left with is total silence.

Usually, they’re not exactly hunting. They crouch in shadows, squeeze into walls and ceilings, happy to let the city’s noise flow right to them. Still, people whisper about strange things. Some swear they’ve heard what the leeches have stolen: scraps of prayers, sobs, old arguments—all twisted together into one awful whisper seeping out of the walls.
