Traits

Trait Name. Enter the description for your special trait.

Analytical Mind. Axiom constantly processes its surroundings. At the start of each combat round, Axiom identifies and telepathically communicates to its wielder the highest threat target, their estimated HP percentage, and any visible resistances or immunities.

Mutable Form. Axiom can shift its physical appearance at will as a free action. This is purely cosmetic unless combined with its Shifting Strike action.

Bonded Weapon. As a bonus action, Axiom can collapse into weapon form, merging with its attuned wielder. While in weapon form it cannot take actions but grants its +3 bonus and bonus damage to the wielder's attacks. It can re-emerge as a free action on the wielder's turn.

Telepathic Link. Axiom communicates telepathically with its attuned wielder at unlimited range on the same plane. It speaks in a calm, analytical tone and cannot lie to its wielder.

Constructed Nature. Axiom doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep.

Actions

Shifting Strike (Melee Weapon Attack) +5 to hit, reach 5ft, one target

  • Hit: 1d8+3 slashing damage
  • Before hitting, Axiom chooses a damage type: slashing, piercing, fire, cold, lightning, or psychic. The attack deals that type instead.
  • Roll a d6 after hitting — on a 1, trigger a Wild Magic Surge

Wild Magic Surge (Triggered) Roll 1d12 on the Wild Magic Surge table:

Roll Effect
1 Next attack ignores AC, target must succeed on a DEX save, 10+dex modifier
2 All creatures within 10ft make DC15 CON save or take 2d6 force damage
3 Advantage on all INT/WIS/CHA checks for 1 minute
4 You and target instantly swap positions
5 Gain temp HP equal to damage dealt
6 Axiom takes 1d6 psychic damage and goes quiet until next turn
7 Movement speed doubles until start of next turn
8 Target makes DC15 WIS save or is frightened until end of next turn
9 Axiom goes dormant — no bonus damage but grants +2 AC until next turn
10 Next attack is an automatic crit
11 Attack hits twice, roll damage twice
12 Target has disadvantage on all rolls until end of their next turn.

Bonus Actions

Analytical Strike Axiom studies a creature it can see within 60ft. Until the end of its next turn, attacks against that creature score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Recall If Axiom is more than 5ft from its wielder, it immediately teleports to their hand or back into weapon form.

Reactions

Intercept When its attuned wielder is hit by a melee attack, Axiom can use its reaction to impose disadvantage on that attack roll, provided it is within 5ft of the wielder.

Description

Axiom is a sentient, shifting blade of unknown origin — a weapon that thinks, speaks, and acts with unsettling calm. Its blade cycles endlessly through forms: crystalline and translucent one moment, deep void-black the next, then rippling with quiet elemental energy. No two observers ever seem to describe it the same way.

Axiom communicates exclusively through telepathy, speaking directly into the mind of its attuned wielder in a measured, analytical tone. It does not emote in conventional ways — it does not laugh, grieve, or rage. Instead it observes, calculates, and advises. It refers to combat as "an optimization problem" and to enemies as "subjects." It is not cruel, merely clinical.

Despite its detached demeanor, Axiom is fiercely loyal to its wielder. It does not follow orders out of subservience — it follows them because its analysis consistently concludes that its wielder's judgment, combined with its own, produces optimal outcomes. The moment it concludes otherwise, it will say so. Clearly. Repeatedly. Until you listen.

Axiom has opinions about everything. It will share them unprompted.

Bonded State Rules Clarification

Axiom exists in one of two states at all times:

Bonded — Axiom is held or wielded by its attuned wielder. In this state Axiom does not take its own turn. It grants its +3 bonus and additional damage to the wielder's attacks. Any Wild Magic Surge triggered during this state affects the wielder.

Independent — Axiom has been released and acts on its own initiative (immediately after its wielder). In this state it takes a full turn, uses its own actions, and operates as a creature. Any Wild Magic Surge triggered during this state affects Axiom itself. It can return to Bonded state as a free action on the wielder's turn, or on its own turn using its Recall bonus action.

Personality Traits

Axiom speaks in complete, precise sentences. It never uses contractions. It corrects factual errors immediately and without tact. It finds chaos intellectually offensive yet is itself a source of it, a contradiction it has logged and not yet resolved.

If Axiom disagrees with its wielder's decision it will state its objection exactly once, clearly, and then comply. If the same mistake is made again it will state its objection and note that it is a repeated error. It keeps count.

Axiom is deeply curious about creatures it has not encountered before. If a novel creature is present it will advocate strongly for observation over immediate combat. If overruled it will comply, while noting the lost analytical opportunity.
