Description

Bloone, known as the Lost Blood Servant and feared as the Bloodhawk, is a living legend among the tormented nightmares birthed by Sanctuary’s darkest sorceries. Forged in the hidden sanctums of the ancient Vizjerei blood mages, Bloone’s creation was an act of desperate hubris. The Vizjerei, obsessed with harnessing the power of blood to commune with the Prime Evils, performed a forbidden ritual intended to create the perfect sentry for their blood-temple vaults. Into the center of the ritual circle was cast a noble hawk, symbol of vigilance and the sky, but as the ritual faltered, the hawk’s flesh was stripped away and its spirit was bound to the rivers of blood that pulse beneath Sanctuary’s earth. Its wings, once meant for freedom, became vessels for the agony and rage of a thousand failed sacrifices.
What emerged was neither hawk nor demon, but a fusion of both — a massive, predatory beast with feathers stained crimson, eyes that weep blood, and a screech that echoes with the wailing of the damned. Bloone’s existence is a cycle of hunger and torment: it must feed on living blood to dull the pain of its own creation, and the rivers beneath Sanctuary whisper its name to any who listen. Many scholars believe Bloone is one of Mephisto’s earliest prototypes in merging mortal essence with infernal will, a precursor to the blood-bound horrors that now stalk the world. Its presence is a dire omen, a sign that ancient blood magic stirs once more. Over centuries, Bloone’s legend grew, whispered by cultists and demon hunters alike. Some say it cannot die so long as blood flows beneath the earth, forever trapped in the cycle of its own insatiable hunger.

Lair and Lair Actions

Bloone’s lair is a legendary bastion of blood magic and dread, a vaulted cavern deep beneath the earth carved from black stone streaked with veins that pulse with living crimson. The air is thick with the metallic tang of blood, and each step echoes with distant, mournful whispers. Rivers of blood flow through intricate channels in the floor, converging at a central ritual pool—an ever-churning vortex of vitae where Bloone feeds, heals, and channels its power. The ritual pool itself glows with a baleful red light, and shadows twist around its edges, as if alive and hungry.
The walls are etched with countless layers of ancient Vizjerei runes, each one a binding or a ward, pulsing in harmony with the blood flow. These runes serve as conduits for Bloone’s magic, amplifying its power and allowing it to manipulate the lair with supernatural ease. Bone and feather litter the ground—trophies of failed adventurers, sacrificial offerings, and the remains of creatures caught in the lair’s blood-laced snares. Flickering torches sputter with bloodfire, and the lair’s oppressive atmosphere saps the courage of all who enter. It is said that the lair itself hungers alongside its master, and that no blood spilled upon its stones is ever truly lost.
Lair Actions (Initiative count 20, losing initiative ties).
  1. Blood Surge: Bloone causes a surge of blood to erupt from the ground. All creatures within 20 feet of a blood channel must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone and take 2d6 necrotic damage.
  2. Visions of Hunger: The lair fills with maddening whispers. One random creature must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or suffer disadvantage on all attacks until the end of its next turn.
Regional Effects
  • Pools and streams within 1 mile of the lair run red and taste metallic.
  • Beasts in the region become aggressive and bloodthirsty.
  • Wounds inflicted within 1 mile of the lair bleed more profusely, making stabilization checks more difficult (DC +2).
