Traits

Undead Fortitude. If damage reduces the Bone Demon to 0 hit points, it must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 5 + the damage taken), unless the damage is radiant or from a critical hit. On a success, the Bone Demon drops to 1 hit point instead.

Lightning Conduit. When the Bone Demon is hit by lightning damage, it regains hit points equal to half the damage dealt.

Magic Resistance. The Bone Demon has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Actions

Multiattack. The Bone Demon makes three attacks: two with its claws and one with its tail.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6+4) slashing damage.

Tail. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8+4) bludgeoning damage.

Lightning Bolt (Recharge 5–6). Ranged Spell Attack: +5 to hit, range 90 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (3d8+2) lightning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn.

Bonus Actions

Tail Lash. The Bone Demon’s tail can strike as a bonus action.

Tail Sweep. The Bone Demon makes a tail attack against a different creature within 15 feet of it after a successful claw attack.

Reactions

Bone Shield. When the Bone Demon is hit by a melee attack, it can use its reaction to gain +2 AC until the start of its next turn.

Description

The Large Bone Demon towers over nine feet tall, its blackened bones fused into powerful limbs and a ribcage broad as a shield. Its tail is now as long as a man is tall, and spinal plates and jagged horns jut from its skull. Its claws spark with blue lightning, and its baleful azure gaze sweeps the darkness. Booming steps echo across ruined halls as it advances, the air sizzling with static, and its tail cracks like a whip, scattering lesser foes.

Lair and Lair Actions

A Bone Demon’s lair is a cold, echoing mausoleum deep beneath cursed ruins or war-torn battlefields. The ground is littered with charred bones and shattered armor, and the air crackles with residual necromantic energy. Faint blue lightning arcs between pillars, and runes glow with forbidden power. Shadows seem to move of their own accord, and the heavy silence is broken only by the sound of rattling bones.
Lair Actions (Initiative 20, losing ties)
  1. Bone Storm: The Bone Demon calls forth a whirlwind of bone shards in a 30-foot radius. All creatures (except undead) must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw or take 14 (4d6) piercing damage and be pushed 20 feet away.
  2. Lightning Surge: The Bone Demon channels lightning through the lair, causing all non-undead creatures to make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of their next turn.
  3. Grasping Bones: Skeletal hands erupt from the ground, attempting to restrain up to three creatures of the Bone Demon’s choice. Each target must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or become restrained until the end of their next turn.
Regional Effects
  • Within 2 miles of the lair, the air is unnaturally cold and filled with static electricity.
  • Undead creatures in the area gain resistance to lightning damage.
  • Resting in the area is troubled by nightmares and offers no benefit unless protected by magical means.
