Antimagic Susceptibility. The book is incapacitated while in the area of an antimagic field. If targeted by dispel magic, the book must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC or fall unconscious for 1 minute.
False Appearance. While the book remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal spellbook.
Unbound Knowledge. If the Animated Spellbook is destroyed while acting as a familiar and has spells copied into it, its master can cast the spell again to bring the same spellbook back without losing spells copied into it.
Word River. If the Animated Spellbook is inside a library or any other repository of texts, it can spend an hour to make an Intelligence (Investigation) check to telepathically search for a body of texts in the library and subsequently read it. The check's DC depends on the size of the collection:
- 10 for a small home-library
- 12 for a town's library
- 14 for a city's
- 16 for a university's
- and so on
If the spellbook is currently a familiar, the spell's caster can also read the text along with it as long as they're in the same plane of existence.
Description
This spellbook looks just like a normal thick leather-bound book. Until it animates with bright magic runes, that is.
While attuned to the book, you have a +1 bonus to your spell save DC and spell attack bonus. It also reduces the time and resources you spend to copy a spell into it by ¼. Additionally, you always have the find familiar spell prepared and it doesn't count to your spells prepared total. If you cast this spell while attuned to the book, you can animate it to act as your familiar.
