Traits

Keen Judge. Despite its low intelligence, the bat is unusually sharp about danger.  It has Advantage on Wisdom (insight) checks made to sense whether someone or something means harm.

Devoted Sentinel. While the bat's chosen companions are taking a Long Rest outdoors at night, their bat friend does not sleep.  Instead, it flits a slow perimeter of the party's campsite watching for danger.  If anything approaches that the bat deems hostile, it wakes its people immediately.

Echolocation. The fey bat can't use its Blindsight while deafened.

Actions

Bite. +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 piercing damage.

Description

Fey fruit bats talk — a lot — in short, chirpy sentences.   They tend to be encouraging, a little anxious, and endlessly loyal: "You did good! You did SO good! I saw the whole thing!" The easiest way to quiet their chatter is to give them a juicy apple or other piece of fruit to quietly savor. A fey bat has zero interest in fighting and every interest in cheerleading, worrying, and staying out of the way, occasionally biting an ankle if its person is in real trouble. It usually eventually picks one favorite person and bonds hard, getting jealous of other pets who get too much attention from THEIR person, but quick to forgive once reassured.  Loves fruit, hates being left behind, and will absolutely wake the whole camp shrieking if it sees something coming that it doesn't like.
