Keen Sight. The ashen phoenix has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.
Ashen Form. The ashen phoenix may move through a space as narrow as one foot wide without squeezing. Additionally, the ashen phoenix may move through a creature's space and end there, and any creature may pass through its space and end there. Any creature whose space the phoenix passes through, who passes through its space, or is hit by an attack made by the ashen phoenix must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the end of its next turn as it is choked by the ashes and embers composing the ashen phoenix's body.
Dying Embers. If the ashen phoenix's immunity to fire damage prevents it from being damaged by an attack, spell, or ability, the ashen phoenix gains temporary hit points equal to the damage prevented. While these temporary hit points remain, the ashen phoenix's attacks deal an extra 14 (4d6) points of fire damage on a hit.
Multiattack. The ashen phoenix makes two attacks: one with its beak and one with its talons.
Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 27 (4d8 + 9) bludgeoning damage.
Talons. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 23 (4d6 + 9) bludgeoning damage.
Description
The ashen phoenix is a perversion of the famous creature's very existence. A phoenix lives eternal, the very symbol of reincarnation and immortality to many peoples and religions, but sometimes even that which cannot die does just that.
An ashen phoenix has typically been subject to some violent spell or other exceptional circumstance that has broken its normal cycle of reincarnation, leaving its form to consume itself and become naught but a cloud of ash in the shape of a bird. As such, they are creatures of violence, lashing out at the world that has betrayed them. Because the ancient fires that birthed them still burns within them, albeit weakly, they seek ways to rekindle that ancient flame. They will often pick fights with fire giants, fire elementals, and powerful evokers; if this fails, they may set fire to a settlement just to nest in the fire.
The life, so to speak, of an ashen phoenix is short-lived but violent.
