Shapechanger. The A'Cuca can use its action to change into a Giant Crocodile, or back into its Humanoid form. Any equipment it is carrying is transformed as well. It can also assume the form of any humanoid that it has killed. The A'Cuca transforms back into its true form when it dies. 

Limited Magical Resistance. The A'cuca can't be affected or detected by spells of 3rd level or lower unless it wishes to be. It has advantage on saving throws against all other spells and magical effects.

Innate Spellcasting (Humanoid Form Only). The A'Cuca's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 15). The A'Cuca can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

Actions

Multiattack (Humanoid form only) The A'Cuca makes three melee attacks, twice with its claws and once with its bite.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit:  12 (2d6+4) slashing damage. 

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit:  14 (2d8+4) piercing damage. 

Psychic Assault. The A'Cuca chooses one creature within 60 ft. and unleashes a bolt of negative energy towards the target. The creature must make a DC 15 Intelligence saving throw or take 22 (4d10) psychic damage and fall prone on a failed save, or take half damage one a successful save. 

Legendary Actions

A'Cuca can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The A'Cuca regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Shadow Slip. The A'Cuca can move up to its speed without provoking an attack of opportunity. If when the A'Cuca takes this action it is in partial or complete darkness, it can move up to double its speed without provoking an attack of opportunity. 

Restless Thoughts. The A'Cuca can use its Psychic Assault action.

Grief-Eater (Costs 2 actions). The A'Cuca attempts to feed off of the negative thoughts and actions of a creature within 30 ft. The target creature must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or become poisoned and frightened. On a failed save, the A'Cuca regains 15 hit points. 

Description

The A'Cuca, also knowns as L'Coco, is a nightmarish creature that feeds on grief and suffering. It will seek out homes where a child has recently died and slowly gain energy from the sorrow that surrounds the family. This process will often augment the anguish of those affected, causing them to gradually grow insane and violent. The A'Cuca will feed off of these types of families for as long as possible before moving on to families with more recent grief. 

The A'Cuca is generally solitary, and may never cross paths with another of its type. If they do, they will avoid each other, generally ceding territory to the older and more powerful creature. A'Cucas rarely fight among themselves.

It has been theorized that there are multiple types of A'Cuca - the most common variety feed off of the loss of a child, but some are thought to seek out those affect by other traumas.
