Traits

Eldritch Awareness. The Wendigo has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.

Ravenous Charge. If the Wendigo moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with an Antlers attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 3 (1d6) piercing damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it is also knocked Prone.

Actions

Multiattack. The Wendigo makes three attacks: two with its Claw and one with its Bite. It can replace the Bite attack with an Antlers attack.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6+4) slashing damage plus 3 (1d6) poison damage. If the target is Large or smaller, it is Grappled (escape DC 16). The Wendigo has two claws, each of which can grapple one target.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 11 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes an additional 3 (1d6) necrotic damage, its hit point maximum is reduced by the necrotic damage taken, and the Wendigo regains hit points equal to that amount. On a successful save, the target takes half as much necrotic damage, its hit point maximum is not reduced, and the Wendigo regains no hit points. The reduction lasts until the target finishes a Long Rest.

Antlers. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) piercing damage.

Description

The claws of a Blightclaw Wendigo carry the corruption growing inside it. Wounds left by its talons blacken, swell, and burn as foulness enters the blood, giving the creature its name.

By this stage, the Wendigo has become an experienced hunter. It knows how to use reach, speed, and overwhelming aggression to keep prey from recovering. A creature caught beneath it may find itself poisoned, restrained, and bleeding before the rest of its companions can react.

Blightclaws are particularly dangerous to groups that scatter under pressure. Once a victim separates from the others, the Wendigo rarely allows distance to open again. It follows relentlessly, seemingly indifferent to injuries inflicted during the chase.

Some hunters claim that the arrival of poison in a Wendigo’s claws marks the point at which the creature’s corruption has begun changing more than flesh. Whatever foul force drives its hunger is beginning to seep outward.
