Traits

Antimagic Susceptibility. The nutcracker is incapacitated while in the area of an antimagic field. If targeted by dispel magic, the nutcracker must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC or fall unconscious for 1 minute.

False Appearance. If the nutcracker is motionless at the start of combat, it has Advantage on its Initiative roll. Moreover, if a creature hasn’t observed the nutcracker move or act, that creature must succeed on a DC 18 Intelligence (Investigation) check to discern that the nutcracker is animate.

Actions

Multiattack. The nutcracker makes two melee attacks, one with its candy cane and one with its skullcracker bite.

Candy Cane. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) bludgeoning damage.

Skullcracker. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be dazed until the beginning of their next turn.

Description

Standing roughly the size of a human, this wooden construct is painted in the bright, festive regalia of a toy soldier. At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a meticulously carved holiday decoration, complete with a gilded shako hat, painted rosy cheeks, and a massive, blocky jaw designed to crack oversized walnuts. However, beneath its cheery enamel paint lies a ruthless, unblinking guardian animated by eccentric magic.

Guardians of the Workshop. Often created by reclusive toymakers, whimsical fey, or holiday-obsessed wizards, animated nutcrackers are built to protect vaults, workshops, and seasonal hoards. They are incredibly patient, capable of standing perfectly still for decades. They are usually placed among mundane decorations, waiting for unsuspecting intruders to drop their guard before violently springing to life with the stiff, jerky motions of a wind-up toy.

Festive Brutality. In combat, an animated nutcracker fights with terrifying, mechanical efficiency. It wields a dense, oversized candy cane forged from hardened sugar-glass or painted iron, using it to bludgeon trespassers. Worse still is its signature bite. Driven by powerful, magically reinforced hinges, its wooden jaw can unhinge and snap shut with enough crushing force to shatter helmets and leave seasoned adventurers reeling.

Construct Nature. An animated nutcracker doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep.
