Description

Baalphegor is an elegant, dignified she‑devil whose presence radiates a quiet, effortless authority. Her cinnamon‑colored skin has a subtle metallic sheen, as though polished by the icy winds of Cania itself. Her glowing red eyes are bright and discerning, capable of shifting from warm amusement to razor‑sharp calculation in an instant. Long, lustrous red hair cascades down her back like molten rubies, contrasting with the leathery bat‑like wings that unfurl from her shoulders. Unlike many devils of her station, she possesses humanlike feet rather than hooves—an oddity that only adds to her enigmatic allure.

She appears eternally young, with a serene, almost carefree expression that belies the depth of her intellect and the weight of her responsibilities. Her voice is typically melodic, smooth enough to soothe even the most irritable pit fiend, but on the rare occasions when her temper breaks, it transforms into a harsh, grating sound that can silence an entire court. Though she stands only five and a half feet tall, her poise and confidence make her seem far larger, and few forget the experience of being in her presence.

History

For fifty millennia, Baalphegor has served as the consort of Mephistopheles, a role she assumed the moment he conquered Cania. Their partnership is one of the most enduring and politically significant alliances in the Nine Hells. As the foremost mage in all of Baator, she has crafted spells, rituals, and magical devices that have shaped infernal warfare and diplomacy alike. Many of the most feared arcane innovations of Hell bear her unmistakable signature.

Her influence within Mephistar is vast and subtle. As Mephistopheles’ primary diplomat, she has negotiated pacts, manipulated rival archdevils, and steered countless political outcomes in her lord’s favor. She has cultivated alliances—often secretive, always advantageous—with nearly every being of consequence in the cold lord’s court. Those few who resisted her overtures have long since been removed, quietly and efficiently, leaving her with no meaningful enemies within Cania.

Remarkably, she has also maintained a cordial relationship with Asmodeus himself. The Lord of the Nine has publicly praised her intellect on numerous occasions, declaring her second only to himself in brilliance across all planes. This rare acknowledgment grants her a level of respect and autonomy that no other being enjoys, and even the most arrogant archdevils tread carefully around her.

Rumors whispered through the darkest corners of Baator claim that Baalphegor is not merely a powerful devil but an Ancient Baatorian—one of the primordial beings who inhabited the Nine Hells before Asmodeus’ rise. Most of these ancient creatures were annihilated or reduced to shadowy remnants that later evolved into the assassin devils of Nessus. Yet Baalphegor’s appearance and abilities don't resemble descriptions of those original denizens, rather she looks traditionally infernal. But perhaps she can alter her shape so profoundly that even archdevils with truesight can't see her original form.  If the rumors are true, she may be the last surviving Ancient Baatorian, a relic of a forgotten age who has adapted, endured, and risen to power in a world that destroyed her kin.

Whether these whispers are truth or calculated myth is known only to Baalphegor herself—and she has never offered clarification.
