Explosive Demise. When the bibliomortis is reduced to 0 hit points, the glass globe that serves as its head shatters, releasing a burst of necrotic energy. Each creature within 10 feet of the bibliomortis must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Multiattack. The bibliomortis makes two Staff attacks.
Staff. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit:
8 (2d6 + 1) bludgeoning damage plus 7 (2d6) force damage.
Spellcasting. The bibliomortis casts one of the following spells, requiring no material components and using Intelligence as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 15):
At will: mage hand, minor illusion, shadow lash*
3/day each: mage armor, mirror image
2/day each: blight, phantasmal killer

Spectral Grasp (Recharge 5-6). The bibliomortis targets up to three creatures it can see within 30 feet of itself. Each target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be restrained by ghostly, spectral hands that rise from the ground. While restrained in this way, the target takes 14 (4d6) necrotic damage at the start of each of its turns. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Utilize Knowledge (2/Day). The bibliomortis burns a page from its grimoire and chooses either itself or a creature it can see within 30 feet of it. The target gains a +1 bonus to the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw that it makes in the next minute.
Misty Step (3/day). The bibliomortis teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.
Soul Siphon (1/Day). When a creature the bibliomortis can see within 60 feet of it dies, the bibliomortis siphons the creature’s soul into the glowing globe that serves as its head. The bibliomortis regains 20 hit points, and the creature can’t be revived until the bibliomortis is destroyed.
Description
Bibliomortii are Undead entities that were once academics and scholars devoted to the pursuit of knowledge, only to be consumed by the very secrets they sought. These skeletal figures are distinguished by the glass globes that replace their heads, each filled with a luminous, unholy substance that sustains their existence and grants them their necromantic powers. The globe serves as both a symbol of their transformation and a wellspring of their corrupted arcane abilities. Found in old libraries, desecrated temples, and longabandoned crypts, Bibliomortii are drawn to places where secrets have been twisted by darkness. These locations are often cursed, with walls lined by decaying tomes and air thick with the whispers of lost souls. They are frequently tasked as guardians of these locations by powerful necromancers. As Undead mages, Bibliomortii carry grimoires filled with obscure knowledge and mystical secrets. These unholy codexes enable the Bibliomortii to cast necromantic spells and summon spectral forces to strike at their enemies. However, the most feared ability of the Bibliomortis is their capacity to siphon the souls of the fallen. When a creature dies in their presence, the Bibliomortis can draw its essence into the glowing globe that serves as their
head, corrupting the soul and using it to fuel their magic. As a collective, these creatures are a warning against the perils of unchecked curiosity and the allure of illicit knowledge.
