Description
Awborne the Overshadowing was not the first paladin to turn his back on the gods of light and become an Oathbreaker, but legend tells that he was the first mortal to willingly sacrifice his life for the cause of evil. After his death, Awborne's soul fell to whatever reward his dark masters saw fit to impose, but one hundred years after his demise, something pulled itself out of the ground where he had perished. His act of unprecedented wickedness had left behind a remnant of his evil.
Awborne's Remnant is filled with Awborne's hate and destructiveness, but it has none of his intellect or sense of honor. It is a manifestation of malice, driven to kill whatever it comes across.
The Remnant appears as a humanoid shaped of darkness so concentrated that it is as hard as stone. The thing is headless, and from the stump of its neck pours a plume of darkness that obscures the area around it. This cloud follows the Remnant, and it seems to ignore even the strongest wind. Claws solidify from the cloud and slash at anything that approaches. The Remnant can also shape some of the cloud into a scythe reminiscent of the one Awborne used to wield.
Although Awborne's Remnant seems to be a near-mindless horror that slays at random, this might not be so. It is possible that the creature has a purpose that drives it, such as slaying the descendants of the ones who killed Awborne. Or perhaps it wishes to become whole by restoring Awborne to life (or at least finding his head).
