Both the Root and its Vines subsist on the metal attentions of sentient creatures from the material plane. Radiant and Necrotic damage are anathema to the creature. Its vines, when unable to find food in the underdark will reach to the world above. They use long narrow tunnels which other creatures would need to crawl through to get to them.
