Traits

Soul Eater. If a creature is killed by the Animathyes, it's soul is devoured and becomes trapped within the Animathyes' body. Any spell that breathes life into the dead (including revivifyraise deadresurrection, and true resurrection) automatically fails if cast on a creature who's soul is trapped inside the Animathyes. If the Animathyes is killed, a victim can be successfully revived.

Amphibious. The Animathyes can breathe air and water.

Actions

Soul Siphon. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (2d6 + 4) necrotic damage. When a creature takes damage, it must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or its hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken. This reduction lasts until the target finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.

Description

The Animathyes appears at first glance like a giant manta ray, slowly gliding through the air as if it was held suspended in an invisible fluid. However, on closer inspection it appears to have no external sensory organs, neither mouth nor eyes nor ears. As it drifts slowly towards you, you feel your skin crawl as its flesh starts to distend. Folds of flesh transform as faces of the dead push their way out, their silent screams locking you in place. You begin to feel your very essence start draining into the maws of the dead faces, the Animathyes' previous meals.
