Description
On the outskrits of the Elemental Plane of Fire, where it borders the Elemental Plane of Air, hot winds whip volcanic debris into violent storms that can turn the very air into a burning night-scape. The sky is a constantly churning whirlwind that, even at the best of times, obscures the sun into a distant, weak corona referred to as the Ashen Star.
Al-Malik Al-Ashwadi is the current patriarch of the House of the Ashen Star, a noble family that originated and grew powerful in its namesake region. Al-Ashwadi seeks ways to crush rival houses in the City of Brass, the jewel city of the Elemental Plane of Fire, who scorn the House of the Ashen Star for it's "impure flame."
More obsidian in complexion than other efreet, Al-Malik Al-Ashwadi revels in the nobility of his regions House, wearing black and gold silks and enchanted jewelry so marvelous that they could only have been crafted by the master smiths of the azers, a race of dwarf-like fire elementals skilled with the anvil and forge. As a powerful magus, Al-Ashwadi's natural arcane talents lend themselves to warding, turning aside, and rendering powerless his opponents.
The dynastic family Houses in the City of Brass are constantly scheming and plotting against each other for the Sultan's favor or for the chance to take one step closer to the throne itself. Even an incremental change in the political web is often the hard-won work of centuries in the glimmering City of Brass.
Al-Ashwadi has been secretly expanding his circle of influence, enslaving isolated tribes of azers in honor and tribute to the infamous efreet slavers of ages past. His plan is to unseat the noble families from the City of Brass who seek to lower his house's standing for it's "impure" origins.
Al-Ashwadi recently uncovered the long-lost secret of Marduk, an ancient and powerful dragon sleeping in the volcano of the Moradians of Avernus, azers who fled the Elemental Plane of Fire to seek refuge from efreeti slavery in the Nine Hells. Al-Ashwadi now seeks to awaken Marduk and re-enslave the Moradians wiht the help of devils loyal to Tiamat and bring them back to the Elemental Plane of Fire. With the hubris only an efreeti slaver could muster, Al-Ashwadi believes he can bring Marduk to heel under his rule and leverage the might of the great wyrm in a bid for power in the City of Brass.
