Traits

Keen Smell. The troll has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Steel Hearted. The troll has advantage on saves against being frightened.

Battle Charge. If the troll moves at least 20 feet in a straight line towards a creature and hits it with a melee attack that creature takes an additional 7 (2d6) damage and the creature must make a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone or pushed away 30 feet (the trolls choice).

Regeneration. The troll regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn. If the troll takes acid or fire damage, this trait doesn't function at the start of the troll's next turn. The troll dies only if it starts its turn with 0 hit points and doesn't regenerate.

Actions

Multiattack. The troll can make two attacks with its greatsword or longbow or three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (4d6 + 5) slashing damage.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 5) piercing damage.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage.

Longbow. Ranged Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (2d8 + 2) piercing damage.

Reactions

Reckless Riposte. If the troll is hit with an attack from a creature within 5 feet of it the troll can choose to make a melee attack against it with advantage. However, until the end of its next turn, all attacks against the troll have advantage.

Description

Thes armored, fearless and ruthless war trolls are the more intelligent of their kin, however not by much. War trolls are bolstered with armor, weaponry, and experience, they have lived through countless battles and have done nothing but learned from each and every one of them.

They employ the typical brutish troll tactics but take care around casters and creatures wielding torches, making sure to deal with the enemies that can easily fell them by charging towards them and attacking them with reckless abandon.

War trolls often serve as mercenaries to other evil creatures such as orcs, goblins or gnolls and tend to pick up a few bits and pieces of their languages to better communicate with them in battle. However, if they were offered a better deal for their services by an opposing force they would quickly turn on their previous hires in a heartbeat.
