Posted May 25, 2020If you are wondering why I created some slightly tweaked versions of standard humanoid baddies it is in order to fix a few things in their original stats that came out in my own campaigns. First, their CRs are a little wonky and don't follow the workshop advice in the DMG and second, most of the goblinoids provide far more treasure then I think was intended.
For bugbears, I added the long-limbed feature given to them as a character race along with changing up their equipment some. I also updated the brute feature to add just a 1d8 versus doubling the weapon dice which is a weird ability if you want to get your bugbears a different type of weapon. I removed the shield since a AC 16 is techically something like a CR 8 and I wanted to free up both hands in order to give the bugbear some two handed weapons. Finally, I substituted the greatclub to reduce the 'net worth' of the monster in gp value and added the shortbow as it was more in keeping with the hunting aspect in their description.
