Traits

Bile of the Horde. Upon death, the Demon leaves behind a puddle of steaming oil-like bile that smells of a rotting corpse under heat. This bile occupies the space where the Demon was prior to death. Paladins might have a hard time using Detect Good and Evil with this horrible aroma around, but it is otherwise harmless to PCs. Another Demon within 5 feet of this bile can absorb the bile into it's own body as an action. When a Demon does this, they can be healed up to the dead Demon's HP Maximum, gain +1 to any stat, attack roll, armor class, or damage modifier, or gain a new physical trait/limb that would grant a new attack (Ex: A tail for a tail attack). Optionally, a Demon may increase in size if it were to absorb enough bile in this way. If the Demon opts for the healing, any remaining points of healing will add to the Demon's HP Maximum. The Demon will have its HP filled to the new Maximum at the start of its next turn.

**Note: If the Demon dies of a damage type it is vulnerable to, the demon absorbing its remains must make a DC 17 Constitution Save or take the same amount of damage that killed the first Demon, and the benefits are not gained. The absorbing Demon can attempt to absorb the bile again on its next turn.**

Actions

Change Form. The Demon reverts itself down to it's bile form. It can still move and use weakened attacks (DM Discretion) in this form. It can also be absorbed by other Demons in this state, though it would never do so willingly. This bile form can move through cracks of any size, though anything smaller than an inch will take one turn to enter and another to exit. Taking this Action while in bile form will revert it to the original form.

Muliattack. The Demon makes two Blunt Force attacks, two Bile Throw attacks, or one Blunt Force and on Bile Throw attack.

Blunt Force. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 9 (2d4 + 4) [bludgeoning] damage.

Bile Throw. RangedWeapon Attack: +5 to hit, range 10/30 ft., 1 target. Hit: 9 (2d4 + 4) [acid] damage. Demon takes the same damage (resistance is considered)

Reactions

Absorb Missiles. If the Demon is in it's bile form, it can use it's reaction to catch and slow down a missile to reduce damage, or negate it altogether. Roll 1d12+3 and subtract the result from the damage dealt. If the damage is reduced to 0, the missile is entirely absorbed and doesn't not harm the Demon. Look at the Monk ability "Deflect Missiles" if you are unaware of what qualifies as a missile.

Description

These foul creatures consist of a black, insufferable bile. They are able to change its color and physical traits, though the chaotic mind of a demon makes these changes seemingly at random, with no real forethought in mind. This results in demons having vaguely animal traits, such as the gorilla shape of the Barlgura. Should another Demon come across the bile of one of its fallen species, it will make absorb the bile to strengthen its own abilities. One should take caution that a horde cannot access the bile of the fallen, lest you end up with a long, draining fight, and one big beasty at the end..

Lair and Lair Actions

Regional Effects

If a Demon were to enter the Prime Material Plane, its very existence causes the world around it to die, which creates the following effects:

  • Any plant-life that makes contact with it's bile dies instantly or over the course of an hour, depending on its size.

If the Demon dies, the wildlife will regrow at its normal pace, provided the bile is removed.
