Description
Agrianian Peltasts are expert javelin throwers, used as elite skirmishers in battle. They are Paeonians from the region above Macedonia, but can be found in many places in groups for hire as mercenaries. Their fast and rapid javelin attacks, as well as their mobility, makes them great light infantry and ranged support. As experienced mountain climbers, they came in useful during Alexander's siege of the Sogdian rock fortress, where they surprised the enemy by climbing the mountain in the night. In the gigantic battle of Gaugamela, they served a vital role in picking off the drivers of the scythed chariots while dodging attacks.
Peltasts do not wear armor as it would slow down their rapid movement, and are never meant to get into melee. They usually wear simple linen cloth, with a light small bronze helmet, a wicker shield, and have four javelins each.
Paeonians believe in the Greek Pantheon, and follow the gods Zeus, Apollo, and Demeter.
