Superior Invisibility. As a bonus action, the dragon can magically turn invisible until its concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell). Any equipment the dragon wears or carries is invisible with it.
Limited Telepathy. Using telepathy, the dragon can magically communicate with any other faerie dragon within 60 feet of it.
Magic Resistance. The dragon has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Innate Spellcasting. The dragon’s innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13). It can innately cast a number of spells, requiring no material components. As the dragon ages and changes color, it gains additional spells as shown below.
Red, 1/day each: dancing lights, mage hand, minor illusion
Orange, 1/day: color spray
Yellow, 1/day: mirror image
Green, 1/day: suggestion
Blue, 1/day: major image
Indigo, 1/day: hallucinatory terrain
Violet, 1/day: polymorph
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 1 piercing damage.
Euphoria Breath (Recharge 5–6). The dragon exhales a puff of euphoria gas at one creature within 5 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw, or for 1 minute, the target can’t take reactions and must roll a d6 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior during the turn:
1–4. The target takes no action or bonus action and uses all of its movement to move in a random direction.
5–6. The target doesn’t move, and the only thing it can do on its turn is make a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Description
A faerie dragon is a cat-sized dragon with butterfly wings. It wears a sharp-toothed grin and expresses its delight by the twitching of its tail, its merriment fading only if it is attacked.
Invisible Tricksters. The only warning of a faerie dragon’s presence is a stifled giggle. The dragon stays out of sight, watching invisibly as its victims contend with its pranks. When its fun is done, the dragon might reveal itself, depending on the disposition of its “prey.”
Friendly and Bright. A faerie dragon has a sharp mind, a fondness for treasure and good company, and a puckish sense of humor. Travelers can play to a faerie dragon’s draconic nature by offering it “treasure” in the form of sweets, baked goods, and baubles in exchange for information or safe passage through its territory.
The Colors of Age. A faerie dragon’s scales change hue as it ages, moving through all the colors of the rainbow. All faerie dragons have innate spellcasting ability, gaining new spells as they mature.
Dragon Color | Age Range |
---|---|
Red | 5 years or less |
Orange | 6–10 years |
Yellow | 11–20 years |
Green | 21–30 years |
Blue | 31–40 years |
Indigo | 41–50 years |
Violet | 51 years or more |
The creature card would seem to infer that an (Older) Faerie Dragon doens have the spells of the red, orange, and yellow (Younger) Faerie Dragon, spells it learned as it got older. Just a suggestion that those spells should be added as already known if the idea to separate the two stat blocks is what's wanted.
This stat block and the associated stat block needs to be combined to provide a complete stat block.
thanks for this reference Quipper! Mods, it's been almost a year since this was posted, can we get this information incorporated into the Older Faerie Dragon stat block? I think clarifying that it goes through the rainbow color spectrum would be helpful as well. The language needs to be tightened up a bit. Thanks!
Deleted it now that it has been updated by a helpful mod!

I am surprised this was opened up to me, a user without any source book featuring this creature.
Oh well.
Hey All!
My wife has a Faerie Dragon (younger) as a pet. She has gotten used to using the Euphoria Breath to render most beasts they come up against...useless. My question is, what kind of effect is this? I have searched the internet looking for something to indicate but there's nothing. I want to cater the encounters moving forward to try to balance this effect. Would just "magic resistance" cover this, or would it need to be more specific to aiding the wisdom saving throw?
Faerie dragon.
The main strengths of this tiny dragon are innate magical abilities to confuse and bewilder, a highly developed intelligence, good social skills, exceptional agility, and a remarkable cuteness.
Faerie dragon is roughly the size of a butterfly or a dragonfly. Because of its size, the faerie dragons rarely fight alone and quick call upon allies when in trouble.
Particularly, this dragon can exhale a cone of euphoria gas which temporarily paralyzes the opponents.
MM-"A Faerie Dragon is a cat-sized Dragon with butterfly wings." It is not the size of a butterfly/dragonfly. Its main feature is Superior Invisibility (At Will) which is Greater Invisibility with no duration limit. The Euphoria Gas is its way of getting you really stoned and gives it a good giggle. Hey Bandit91! Its a breath weapon like the other Dragons have. its a cone with a 5 ft. range and so it can only get at 1 medium humanoid at a time. It also makes a good OP familiar for a Warlock with Pact of the Chain. My Sorlock uses his to cast Dragons Breath thru. In that case its not just OP but RO (really obnoxious).
Younger faerie dragons are great pets for rouges.
Older Faerie dragons speak draconic and syvlan. They can only telepathically communicate with other faerie dragons.
So why do they have the Suggestion spell? It requires their target to hear and understand it. Is it regularly casting suggestion on fey or other dragons, or does it hope its victims just happen to be well versed in its own lingo ergo identifying its targets may be smarter than it?
Anyone else coming here post-fizbans wondering how tf this thing is supposed to be a guardian to an amethyst dragon wyrmling?
This creature is actually torture to fight against. My barbarian with a +1 Wisdom save spent over 5 turns just running around like a chicken while his party was getting destroyed in an arena fight. Our monk was also affected, but they kept rolling a 2 on the d6, so they never got the chance to make the save again. Failing the first wisdom save actually just puts you in an infinite loop if you can't roll above a 4 on the d6. Monsters that keep you in an effect that burns your turn and doesn't always give you a saving throw at the end of your turn makes this creature far more dangerous than the deceptive CR 2. Having a 60 ft. flying speed also makes this creature incredibly dangerous. I hate creatures like this so much.
i want to play got the website a few minutes ago how do you play?
Firstly, there's a couple materials you'll need: a set of at least seven dice, although I suppose you could use the website's built in dice. The dice you need are a 4, 6, 8, 10, 10, 12, and 20 sided die. You also friends to play with.
Secondly, read the new player guide: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
Lastly, choose who is going to dm and what adventure you'll be playing. (I recommend a prewritten adventure for beginners).
Wizkids released a ‘Pride’ of faerie dragons. On miniature for each age/color. While they are low cr if your group came along this Pride you won’t be going anywhere soon
Made a dragonborn race for this: https://www.dndbeyond.com/subraces/607458-faerie-dragonborn
Why do the pictures show a stinger when it doesn’t have one as an attack?
To add to what TalonWolf1313 said, I would recommend the adventure, “Lost Mines of Phandelver,” to start.
there size should increase to medium as there get older.
Am I missing something or is this really weak for a CR 2 monster?
Sure it has loads of ways to mess with a party that would be handy if it had allies but on its own its only way to deal any significant damage requires it to be in its oldest stage and use polymorph to turn itself into a beast with a high damage output and its hitpoints are so low it could die in one round if it rolled badly in initiative even against a low level party.
