Posted Jun 22, 2018Describe the following to your players to provide better immersion - (show, don't tell during their first encounter):
This human-sized violet plant shaped as a teardrop has four tendrillike tentacles which flail about at living creatures and a mass of small, rootlike feelers at its base that enable it to move slowly.
In addition, you might want to allow them an Intelligence - Nature check to know the following (accumulated - a roll of 25 or above would know all):
DC5 (very easy): attacks with one to four of its tendrillike tentacles which can reach out to 10'
DC10 (easy): can remain motionless and indistinguishable from an ordinary fungus
DC15 (medium): does not have any damage resistances nor damage vulnerabilities
DC20 (hard): does not have any damage immunities
DC25 (very hard): immune to being blinded, deafened and frightened - blindsight out to 30'

Posted Sep 17, 2018I'm thinking of having a couple in a subsurface cave as opposed to the Underdark... is that fine?

Do you roll the 1d4 every round to determine how many that round, or do you roll once for each fungus and that's how many it gets for the rest of its (now short) life?

Posted Jan 9, 2019I personally would roll once and always use that value as it’ll speed up combat and also you could flavor it as each fungi having a different number of tendrils to attack with.

Posted Apr 19, 2019You would reroll the 1d4 every time you use its multi attack.

Posted May 19, 2020I would imagine that the roots allow it to move in the same fashion as a snail.

Posted Sep 8, 2020No, I think you roll 1d4 to see how many d8s you roll.

Posted Mar 13, 2021Thanks. I already figured that out. I didn't realize it was in the 'F' category. I didn't note the page number, though.

Posted Apr 8, 2022Roll 1d4 every round. You could also do things the latter way if you don't want to go through the extra stress of having to roll more dice each turn. But I'm pretty sure it was made to make a random number of attacks each round. That's what makes it unique.
