UPDATE 8 Nov: We know it has been a long time since we posted here but, the Artificers have been very busy, deep inside the Character Sheet Machine. Without further ado we would like to announce; weight changes when unequipping a container and magical containers that have fixed weights. So now you can load down your Cart full of Fine Clothes, drop that heavy Backpack right before a battle and fill up your Bags of Holding.
UPDATE 6 Aug 00:02GMT: We have recovered all customizations created prior to the containers deployment @15:00 GMT today. Any changes made to those items after the deployment have been reverted to their original status. Any alterations made after the deployment are currently unavailable. We will be working on getting those few back over the next couple of days. Stay tuned and thank you again for your patience.
UPDATE 5 Aug 23:01GMT: We know there is an issue with the customization of items, We are currently working on recovering those customizations. We recommend NOT attempting to correct these issues on your end by deleting and rewriting. Give us a moment to recover your old data. Thank you for your patience.
Greetings Adventurers!
We are so happy to announce that the containers on your character’s inventory now actually HOLD things. You can now add things to your backpack and collapse the list. You can click on the container name to see it's contents and add or remove things. When has organization ever been so fun? So as you all log in to your character for the first time today you will see this functionality.
Please remember this is the first step for us to build out the Shared Inventory for your party and we will eventually be adding currency and weight to each or these containers, meaning you can finally carry an overloaded rucksack and drop it right before combat or have a Bag of Holding’s contents not destroy your weight limit. Oh! And one more thing containers cannot go into containers.
If you have feedback, we want to hear it! The best way to give it to us is through our Inventory Management/Sharing Portal.
Homebrew containers would be a helpful implementation. And the ability to hide some containers would be nice. (The pouch pouch is an extradimensional pouch which holds pouches, and the containers preceded by an emoji were inside other containers, for those interested in what's going on here).
I discovered today that copy a character will empty all containers except Equipment, which can lead to lose of a lot of items
This may just be the minimalist in me coming out but if its at the point where filling out the component pouch has a project I would argue the Other Possessions portion of the Inventory or the Notes section would be a better place to put the components in list form to prevent the other items from getting super cluttered. This would also be the threshold where I would consider using a dedicated spreadsheet instead; but that is likely because I take any opportunity to use a spreadsheet!
In my games; my players only track the spell components that have gold costs or that are consumed on use. Thus; most of them only write those specific components into their inventory--where gold values are tracked--and any other components they want to track they will instead put somewhere else. While everyone is going to have different methods of tracking their components; this method has proven to be pretty effective for us as well as relatively easy to pick up whenever I invite new people to the game/hobby.
I have so many questions
What is the context around this item's creation?
Why is the player even using that many pouches?
Who came up with this idea?
This item has piqued my curiosity!
It would be awesome if we could also move our currencies into our bags/bag of holding
A long time coming but brilliant nonetheless! Now... if I want to distribute my containers among sidekicks or mounts ?
I just want to start by saying that this is a really cool feature, but I was wondering if the Custom items will be allowed to transfer between containers. Again, great idea, and looking forward to what we can do with this in the future (shared party cart/wagon?).
Hooray!
It would be nice if containers had a "turn off item weight" toggle. The bag of holding is an obvious example, but also for things like items in saddlebags. Customizing each item to 0 weight is tedious!
This is the feature I'd love to see added!
Is there a way to move items from one container to another? Or do you just have to delete and create?
Could you direct us towards a source for those ASCII/Unicode emoji's, please? So that we may copy & paste. Chest, Backpack, etc.
Also, have you shared these items as public Homebrew?
TY.
I don’t know how your keyboard is set up or anything, an upside down exclamation point is pretty standard for all Spanish language speakers (which is a lot of people) so it’s pretty standard on lots these days. The emojis are also standard emojis, the DDB system recognizes the web emojis:

Honestly, I do this stuff from my iPhone, all of the special characters and emojis are already right there.
Hey, I don’t judge why they wanna do it. I just commented that custom items couldn’t be put into containers. To be honest, anything that doesn’t have a gp cost associated doesn’t need to be tracked if you have a component pouch it’s assumed stocked at all times with everything else. So the only stuff that needs to be tracked are the diamonds for Revivify, or the ink for illusory script, the pearl for identify, the incense for find familiar, the diamond for chromatic orb, stuff like that.
This is good but a couple of questions and a problem. Problem first - containers can’t go in containers - while I do understand the initial why for this it presents problems like where do I carry my sacks when they are empty? How do I load my saddlebags onto my horse ( if and when horses are treated as containers for things like saddles and saddlebags).
questions: ( I haven’t looked at containers closely sooo….)
1. are horses (at least) added as containers so I can put saddles on/in them instead of carrying that weight around as an overload?
2. are there weight/encumberance limits for each container?
3. do you expect to ever add some sort of container in a container capability and if so is it likely to be a near term addition or a long term addition?
Thank You
Is it currently possible to add custom items to containers like a bag of holder? It appears current iteration that it's lmited to adding items that can be searched on DNDB
Not yet.
Is it possibly to move all contents of one container into another container? (in bulk).
Or can you only do it one at a time?
It would be funny if you would have an old school "Batman" style "BOOM" flash across the screen if you put a Bag of Holding in a Portable Hole.
I love this feature! The only downside that I'm coming across is I tend to add custom items (like spell components such as Bat Fur, Copper Wire, or Piece of Iron) to my Equipment and I can't move those into the Backpack or the Component Pouch. And those inventories down allow me to add custom items so I can't just delete them from my equipment and then add them as custom items to my Backpack or Component Pouch.
